उववाइय मुत्तं सू० ३४
by king Kūņika, the ladies of his harem, their attendants with their respective families, by rsis, munis, japis and denigens of heavens, -sermon which spread through the heart, stayed in the throat, was held in the brain, in words received with different local sounds, free from indistinctness, in expressions clear and good, in a musical (sweet) voice, which could be turned into any language, in Ardhamāgadhi reaching a distance of a yojana.
तेसि सव्वेसिं आरियमणारियाणं अगिलाए धम्ममाइक्खइ । साऽविय णं अद्धमागहा भासा तेसिं सव्वेसिं आरियमणारियाणं अप्पणो सभासाए परिणामेणं परिणमइ तं जहा
.. उन सभी ( उपस्थित ) आर्य-अनार्य जनों को अग्लान भाव से ( बिना परिश्रान्त हुए या तीर्थकर नाम कर्म के उदय से अनायास-बिना थकावट के) धर्म का आख्यान कहा। भगवान महावीर के द्वारा उद्गीर्ण वह अर्द्धमागधी भाषा भी उन सभी आर्यों और अनार्यों की अपनी-अपनी भाषा में परिणत हो जाती थी। भगवान् महावीर ने जो धर्मदेशना दी, वह इस प्रकार है
Without feeling any exhaustion whatsoever, he delivered his sermon to that great assembly consisting of Aryans and non-Aryans. There was simultaneous translation of Ardhamāgadhi ( the language of the sermon ) into the languages of the listeners. Quoth he
- अत्थि लोए। अत्थि अलोए। एवं जीवा अजीवा बंधे मोक्खे पुण्णे पावे आसवे संवरे वेयणा णिज्जरा अरिहंता चक्कवट्टी बलदेवा वासुदेवा नरका णेरइया तिरिक्खजोणिआ तिरिक्खजोणिणीओ माया पिया रिसओ देवा देवलोआ सिद्धी सिद्धा परिणिव्वाणं परिणिव्वुया।
