The Satra which teaches this, , 'शषोः सः' ॥ ३ । २ । ४७ ॥ p. 258 is a counter-exception to the exception-Sūtra 'न प्रायोलुक्कादि" ।। ३ । २ । ६३ ।। p. 259. The latter Sūtra teaches that the changes taught in the Prâkrita by the Sûtras from 't लुक् कग' १ । ३ । ८ ॥ to 'छलूषट् छम्यन्त' ॥ १ । ३ । ९० ॥ do not hold in the Pais'âchî dialect. Thus क्, ग्, च्, ज्, &c. are not dropped and we have एको, भागो, कुचो, गजो in the Paisachi. The Sūtra 'शोः सल्' ।। १ । ३ । ८७ ।। comes within this limit and therefore and would not be changed to according शु प् to the Sútra १ । ३ । ९० ॥ . To prevent this, the Sūtra १ । ३ । ४७ || is given.
If question is here raised that the Sūtras from १ । ३ । ८ ॥ to १ । ३ । ९० ॥ are not applicable to the Pais'ácht, this objection is answered by stating that शेषं प्राकृतवत् ॥ ३ । २ । २६ || extends the operation of the Sūtras in question (from १ । ३ । ८ ।। to १ । ३ । ९० ॥ ) to the Paisachi. To this an objection is raised that 'शेषं प्राकृतवत्' applies to the S'auraseni and not to the Pais' achi. To this the reply is that 'शेषं शौरसेनीवत्' ॥ ३ । २ । ६२ ॥ applies to the Pais' achi, and 'शेषं प्राकृतवत्' applies to the Sauraseni. The scope of the Sûtras of the Prâkrita is extended to the S'aurasenf dialect and the scope of the Sûtras of the S'aurasenî to the Pais'âchî; and thus finally the scope of the Sûtras of the Prâkrita is 49
