निलीयानीतवल्मीकगभीरहीतपूर्वके ।' उल जीर्णे ॥ १।२।५४ ॥ p. 63जीर्ण necessarily changes its ई to उ-जीर्णः-जुण्णो । विहीनहीने वा ॥ १।२।५६ ॥ p. 64In these two words & is optionally changed to 5विहीनः-विहूणो-विहीणो (न् being changed to d by 'नः' p.78)।

७३ ॥ p. 65This section deals with changes of 3 and 57. उपरि and गुरुक (गुरु with the suffix क) change their initial उ to 37 optionally. उपरि-अवरि-उवरि । गुरुकः-गरुओ-गुरुओ। मुकुलादौ ॥ १ ॥ २ ॥ ५९ ॥ p. 64In ytics and other words of the class, the initial 3 is op. tionally changed to अ. मुकुल:-मउलो । मुकुरः-मउरो । मुकुटम्म उडं । अगुरु-अगरुं । गुलूची-गलोई (ऊ being changed to ओ by 'ओल स्थूणातूण p. 65 )। गुवीं-गरुई-( Vide 'तन्व्याभे' p. 107 by which उ is inserted before the final member of the conjunct consonant in words like तन्वी)। युधिष्ठिरः-जहुढिलो जहि ढिलो । सौकुमा. र्यम्-सोअमलं ( Vide p. 38 ). Lakshmîdhara makes the rule optional; but Trivikrama,
Hemachandra, Seshakrishna, and Vararuchi make it necessary. Trivikrama justifies the necessary application of the rule by the words 'पृथग्योगान्नित्यम्'. In some cases उ is changed to आ as in विदाओ from विद्रुतः. सुभगमुसले ॥१।२।६४ ।। p. 65In सुभग and मुसल, उ is optionally changed to ऊ. सुभगः-सूहवो (म् being changed to व् by 'ऊत्वे सुभगदुर्भगे वः', p. 73)-सुहओ । मुसल:-मूसलो-मुसलो। स्तौ ॥१।२। ६६ ।। p. 65
