NOTES ON
In स्नेह, स्नषा, and other words of a similar nature, where both the consonants are capable of being dropped (a by 'कगटडतदपक पशोरुपयद्रे' p. 15 and न् by 'मनयाम् ' p. 13), only one should be dropped by ‘विप्रतिषेधे परं कार्यम् ' and this holds good even in the case of a substitute being taught for a conjunct consonant. This is shown by the author by the use of #1: in the Sûtra ''Enti ve: :' p. 101. In this Sûtra ug is shown to be the substitute for the second sibilant in the word aut. If, however, both & and
are dropped, then only one sibilant ę is left and there is consequently no necessity for the use of 'फोः' in the Sûtra. In order that it may not be superfluous it is taken to be a $1927 of the fact that when both the members of a conjunct consonant are capable of being dropped, even where a substitute for a conjunct consonant is taught, only one should be dropped. Trivikrama iu his Vșitti on 'स्नेहान्यो ' says ""स्नुषायां ग्रहः फोः' इति सूत्रे फोर्ग्रहणेन संयुक्तादेशविषयेप्यन्यतरलोपस्य ज्ञापितत्वात् प्रकृते (that is in लेहः-सणेहो) पूर्व विप्रतिषेधेन सलोपः॥" शर्षवनतप्तेष्वित् ॥ १।४। ९८ ॥ p. 49

Hemachandra observes ' व्यवस्थितविभाषया क्वचिन्नित्यम् । परामरिसो (for परामर्शः) । हरिसो ( for हर्षः) । अमरिसो (for अमर्षः).
