I obey you and accept heartily your suggestion to issue the Part First of the Kuvalayamald. As desired by you, I am sending herewith by return of post, the face page, the Preface and the page of Dedication.
You alone can appreciate my labours on this works:
I have tried to be very brief in the Preface. The Notes for the longer Preface were ready, and I just took those items which could not and should not be omitted. If you think that I have left anything important, please give me your suggestions so that the same can be added in the proofs.
Dr. Alsdrof, Dr. A. Master and others in Europe are very eager to see the work published. From June I can difinitely start drafting the Intro.; and you will please do your best to start printing of the Sanskrit Text. I have spent great lobour on that too. Unless this text is printed soon, some of my observations in the Notes cannot be sufficiently significant. So let the printing start early. You may approve of the types etc. and send to me the speciman page. I shall immediately send some matter. I send the press copy in instalments, because now and then I require some portion here for reference.
I fully understand your sentiments and thrilling experience on the publication of the Kuvalayamala. You know, I paid my respects to Girnar on my way back from Somanith. That early morning Dr. Dandekar, Dr. Hiralal and myself started climbing the hill at about 3 o'clock: If I had seen the height before climbing I would not have dared to undertake the trip. Luckily the dark morning did not disclose the height. Well the same thing has happened in my working on the Kuvalayamälä. If I had any idea of the tremendous labour the text-constitution demanded, perhaps I would not have undertaken it. It is really good that you also did not tell me that, from your own experience. There is a pleasure in editing a difficult text. I enjoyed it for the last six or seven years. The work was heavy, exacting and irritating; still I could do it using all my leisure for the last six or seven years. I really wonder what sustained my spirits in this strenu ous work-at least you know how strenuous it is: it must be something spiritual, perhaps the same Hreedevi behind the scene! I know, the Second Part is still to oome; but I find all that within my reach, within a year or 80.
