पद्मपुराणे
प्रचलत्कुण्डला राजन् ते भटाः पार्श्ववर्तिनः । मुहुर्देव प्रसीदेति त्वरावन्तो बभाषिरे ॥१३॥ कैलासकूटकल्पासु रत्नभासुरभित्तिषु । स्थिताः प्रासादमालासु त्रस्तास्तं ददृशुः स्त्रियः ॥१४॥ मणिजालगवाक्षान्तन्यस्तसम्भ्रान्तलोचना । मन्दोदरी ददर्शनं समालोडितमानसा ॥१५॥ लोहिताक्षः प्रतापात्यः समुत्थाय दशाननः । अमोघरत्नशस्त्रास्यमायुधालयमुजवलम् ॥१६॥ वज्रालयमिवेशानः सुराणां गन्तुमुद्यतः। विशतश्च ममेतस्य दुनिमित्तानि जज्ञिरे ॥१७॥ पृष्टतः क्षुतमने च छिन्नो मार्गों महाहिना । हाही धियां के यासीति वचासि तमिवावदन् ॥१८॥ वातूलप्रेरितं छत्रं भग्नं वैडूर्यदण्डकम् । निपपातोत्तरीयं च बलिभुग्दक्षिणोरटत् ।।१६|| अन्येऽपि शकुनाः रास्तं युद्धाय न्यवर्तयन् । वचसा कर्मणा ते हि न कायेनानुमोदकाः ॥२०॥ नानाशकुनविज्ञानप्रवीणधिषणा ततः । दृष्टा पापानमहोत्पातानत्यन्ताकुलमानसाः ॥२१॥ मन्दोदरी समाहृय शुकादीन् सारमन्त्रिणः। जगाद नोच्यते कस्माद्भवद्भिः स्वहितं नृपः ॥२२॥ किमेतच्चेष्टयतेऽद्यापि विज्ञातस्वपरक्रियः । अशक्ताः कुम्भकर्णाद्याः कियद्वन्धनमागताः ॥२३॥ लोकपालोजसो वीराः कृतानेकमहाद्भताः। शत्रुरोधमिमे प्राप्ताः किं नु कुर्वन्ति वः शमम् ॥२४॥
पड़ते थे मानो पृथिवीमें ही प्रवेश करना चाहते हों ।।१२।। गौतम स्वामो कहते हैं कि हे राजन् ! जिनके कुण्डल हिल रहे थे ऐसे वे समीपवर्ती सुभट 'हे देव प्रसन्न होओ प्रसन्न होओ' इस तरह शीघ्रतासे बार-बार कह रहे थे ।।१३।। कैलासके शिखरके समान ऊँचे तथा रत्नोंसे देदीप्यमान दीवालोंसे युक्त महलोंमें रहनेवाली स्त्रियाँ भयभीत हो उसे देख रही थीं ।।१४।। मणिमय झरोखों .. के अन्तमें जिसने अपने घबड़ाये हुए नेत्र लगा रक्खे थे, तथा जिसका मन अत्यन्त विह्वल था ऐसी मन्दोदरीने भी उसे देखा ।।१५।। ___अथानन्तर लाल लाल नेत्रोंको धारण करनेवाला प्रतापी रावण उठकर अमोघ शस्त्ररूपी रत्नोंसे युक्त उज्वल शस्त्रागारमें जानेके लिए उस प्रकार उद्यत हुआ जिस प्रकार कि वन्त्रालयमें जानेके लिए इन्द्र उद्यत होता है। जब वह शस्त्रागारमें प्रवेश करने लगा तब निम्नाङ्कित अपशकुन हुए ॥१६-१७॥ पीछेकी ओर छींक हुईस, आगे महानागने मार्ग काट दिया, ऐसा लगने लगा जैसे लोग उससे यह शब्द कह रहे हों कि हा, ही, तसे धिक्कार है कहाँ जा रहा है ॥१८॥ नील मणिमय दण्डसे युक्त उसका छत्र वायुसे प्रेरित हो टूट गया, उसका उत्तरीय वन नीचे गिर गया और दाहिनी ओर कौआ काँव काँव करने लगा ॥१६॥ इनके सिवाय और भी क्रूर अपशकुनोंने उसे युद्धके लिए मना किया। यथार्थमें वे सब अपशकुन उसे युद्धके लिए न वचनसे अनुमति देते थे न क्रियासे और न कामसे ही ॥२०॥ तदनन्तर नाना शकुनोंके ज्ञानमें जिनकी बुद्धि निपुण थी ऐसे लोग उन पाप पूर्ण महा उत्पातों को देख अत्यन्त व्यग्रचित्त हो गए ।।२१।।
___ तदनन्तर मन्दोदरीने शुक आदि श्रेष्ठ मन्त्रियोंको बुलाकर कहा कि आप लोग राजासे हितकारी बात क्यों नहीं कहते हैं ॥२२॥ निज और परकी क्रियाओंको जानने वाले होकर भी आप अभी तक यह क्या चेष्टा कर रहे हैं ? कुम्भकर्णादिक अशक्त हो कितने दिनसे बन्धनमें पड़े हैं ? ॥२३।। लोकपालोंके समान जिनका तेज है तथा जिन्होंने अनेक आश्चर्यके काम किये हैं ऐसे ये वीर, शत्रुके यहाँ बन्धनको प्राप्त होकर क्या आप लोगोंको शक्ति उत्पन्न कर रहे हैं ? ॥२४॥

ॐ शकुन शास्त्र में छींकका फल इस प्रकार बताया है कि पूर्व दिशामें हो तो मृत्यु, अग्निकोणमें हो तो शोक, दक्षिणमें हानि, नैऋत्यमें शुभ, पश्चिममें मिष्ट आहार, वायुकोणमें सम्पदा, उत्तर में कलह, ईशानमें धनागम, अाकाशमें सर्वसंहार और पाताल में सर्वसम्पदाकी प्राप्ति हो । रावणको मृत्युकी छोंक हुई।
