पद्मपुराणे
इतिदर्शनसक्तानां पौराणां पुरुविस्मयः । समाकुलः समुत्तस्थौ रमणीयः परं ध्वनिः ॥१४॥ प्रविष्टे नगरी रामे यथासमयचेष्टितैः । नारीपुरुषसङ्घावै रथ्याः मार्गाः प्रपूरिताः ॥१५॥ विचित्रभक्ष्यसम्पूर्णपात्रहस्ताः समुत्सुकाः । प्रवराः प्रमदास्तस्थुः गृहीतकरकाम्भसः ॥१६॥ दृढं परिकरं बद्ध्वा मनोज्ञजलपूरितम् । आदाय कलशं पूर्णमाजग्मुर्बहवो नराः ॥१७॥ इतः स्वामिनित: स्वामिन् स्थीयतामिह सन्मुने । प्रसादाद्भूयतामत्र विचेरुरिति सद्विरः ॥१८॥ अमाति हृदये हर्षे हृष्टदेहरुहोऽपरे । उत्कृष्टवेडितास्फोटसिंहनावानजीजनन् ॥१६॥ मुनीन्द्र जय वर्द्धस्व नन्द पुण्यमहीधर । एवं च पुनरुक्ताभिर्वाग्भिरापूरितं नमः ॥२०॥ अमत्रमानय क्षिप्रं स्थालमालोकय दुतम् । जाम्बूनदमयीं पात्रीमवलम्बितमाहर ॥२॥ क्षीरमानीयतामिक्षुः सन्निधीक्रियतां दधि । राजते भाजने भव्ये लघु स्थापय पायसम् ॥२२॥ शकरां कर्करां कर्कामरं कुरु करण्डके । करपूरितां क्षिप्रं प्रकापटलं नय ॥२३॥ रसाला कलशे सारां तरसा विधिवद्धिते । मोदकान् परमोदारान् प्रमोदादेहि दक्षिणे ॥२४॥ एवमादिभिरालापैराकुलः कुलयोषिताम् । पुरुषाणां च तन्मध्ये पुरमासीत्तदात्मकम् ॥२५॥ अतिपात्यपि नो कार्य मन्यते, नार्भका अपि । आलोक्यन्ते तदा तत्र सुमहासम्भ्रमेजनः ॥२६॥ वेगिभिः पुरुषः कैश्विदागच्छद्भिः सुसकटे । पात्यन्ते विशिखामार्गे जना भाजनपाणयः ॥२७॥ एवमत्युनतस्वान्तं कृतसम्भ्रान्तचेष्टितम् । उन्मत्तमिव संवृत्तं नगरं तत्समन्ततः ॥२८।। कोलाहलेन लोकस्य यतस्तेन च तेजसा । आलानविपुलस्तम्भान् बभञ्जः कुअरा अपि ॥२६॥
इन्हें देखकर अपने चित्त, दृष्टि, जन्म, कर्म, बुद्धि, शरीर और चरितको सार्थक करो। इस प्रकार श्रीरामके दर्शनमें लगे हुए नगरवासी लोगोंका बहुत भारी आश्चर्यसे भरा सुन्दर कोलाहलपूर्ण शब्द उठ खड़ा हुआ ॥१३-१४।।
तदनन्तर नगरीमें रामके प्रवेश करते ही समयानुकूल चेष्टा करनेवाले नर-नारियोंके समूहसे नगरके लम्बे-चौड़े मार्ग भर गये ॥१५॥ नाना प्रकारके खाद्य पदार्थोंसे परिपूर्ण पात्र जिनके हाथमें थे तथा जो जलकी भारी धारण कर रही थी ऐसी उत्सुकतासे भरी अनेक उत्तम त्रियाँ खड़ी हो गई ॥१६॥ अनेकों मनुष्य पूर्ण तैयारीके साथ मनोज्ञ जलसे भरे पूर्ण कलश लेलेकर आ पहुँचे ॥१७॥ 'हे स्वामिन ! यहाँ आइए, हे स्वामिन् ! यहाँ ठहरिए, हे मुनिराज ! प्रसन्नतापूर्वक यहाँ विराजिए' इत्यादि उत्तमोत्तम शब्द चारों ओर फैल गये ॥१८॥ हृदय में हर्षके नहीं समानेपर जिनके शरीरमें रोमाञ्च निकल रहे थे ऐसे कितने ही लोग जोर-जोरसे अस्पष्ट सिंहनाद कर रहे थे ॥१॥ हे मुनीन्द्र ! जय हो, हे पुण्यके पर्वत ! वृद्धिंगत होओ तथा समृद्धिमान् होओ' इस प्रकारके पुनरुक्त वचनोंसे आकाश भर गया था ।।२०।। 'शीघ्र ही बर्तन लाओ, स्थालको जल्दी देखो, सुवर्णकी थाली जल्दी लाओ, दूध लाओ, गन्ना लाओ, दही पासमें रक्खो, चांदीके उत्तम बर्तनमें शीघ्र ही खीर रक्खो, शीघ्र ही खड़ी शक्करमिश्री लाओ, इस बर्तनमें कर्पूरसे सुवासित शीतल जल भरो, शीघ्र ही पूड़ियोंका समूह लाओ, कलशमें शीघ्र ही विधिपूर्वक उत्तम शिखरिणी रखो, अरी, चतुरे! हर्षपूर्वक उत्तम बड़े बड़े लड्डू दे' इत्यादि कुलाङ्गनाओं और पुरुषोंके शब्दोंसे वह नगर तन्मय हो गया ॥२१-२५॥ उस समय उस नगर में लोग इतने संभ्रममें पडे हए थे कि भारी जरूरतके कार्यक लोभ नहीं मानते थे और न कोई बच्चोंको ही देखते थे ॥२६।। सकड़ी गलियोंमें बड़े वेगसे आनेवाले कितने ही लोगोंने हाथों में बर्तन लेकर खड़े हुए मनुष्य गिरा दिये ॥२७। इस प्रकार जिसमें लोगोंके हृदय अत्यन्त उन्नत थे तथा जिसमें हड़बड़ाहटके कारण विरुद्ध चेष्टाएँ की जा रही थीं ऐसा वह नगर सब ओरसे उन्मत्तके समान हो गया था ॥२८॥ लोगोंके उस भारी

Seeing this, make your mind, sight, birth, karma, intellect, body, and conduct meaningful. Thus, the city dwellers, engrossed in the sight of Shri Rama, erupted in a beautiful, noisy clamor filled with immense wonder. ||13-14||

After that, as Rama entered the city, the streets, wide and long, were filled with groups of men and women, all engaged in activities befitting the occasion. ||15||

Many beautiful women, eager and holding vessels filled with various kinds of food, stood there, carrying heavy loads of water. ||16||

Many men, with their belongings firmly secured, arrived carrying full, beautiful water pots. ||17||

"O Master! Come here, O Master! Stay here, O Muni! Please grace us with your presence here," such excellent words spread everywhere. ||18||

Many people, their hearts overflowing with joy, their bodies trembling with excitement, roared like lions, their voices indistinct. ||19||

"O Muni! Victory to you, O Mountain of Merit! May you prosper and be prosperous," the sky was filled with such repeated words. ||20||

"Bring the vessels quickly, look for the tray, bring the golden plate quickly, bring the milk, bring the sugarcane, keep the yogurt nearby, quickly place the kheer in the beautiful silver vessel, bring the granulated sugar and candy quickly, fill this vessel with fragrant, cool water infused with camphor, bring the group of puris quickly, place the excellent shikharini in the pitcher according to the proper procedure, hey, clever one! Give the large, excellent laddoos with joy," such words of the women and men made the city completely absorbed in itself. ||21-25||

At that time, the people in that city were so engrossed in the commotion that they did not care for heavy necessities, nor did they even notice the children. ||26||

Many people, rushing through the narrow lanes, knocked down the people standing with vessels in their hands. ||27||

Thus, the city, with its people's hearts soaring high and their actions driven by the frenzy, became like a madman, all around. ||28||

The immense noise of the people and their brilliance shattered even the strong pillars of the city. ||29||
