Shadduttarashata Parva
306
Deluded by infatuation, she was repeatedly subjected to the misery of womanhood. Defamed by the slander of the ascetics, she attained the state of an elephant on the banks of the Mandakini. 138
Bound by a powerful wind, her steady form became unstable. Releasing a faint sigh, her eyes blossomed. 136
Seeing her about to die, the compassionate Khecara brought her the Karṇajapa mantra. 140
Due to the reduction of her passions, the renunciation of that region, and the grace of Shri-bhuti, she became the daughter of the Vedavati. 141
Seeing the mendicant monk enter the house, she mocked him, whereupon her father made her a Shravika. 142
The kings of the earth, especially Shambhu, were eager to obtain that supremely beautiful maiden, Vedavati. 143
Although a heretic is equal to Kubera in wealth, the priest declared that she would not be given to him. 144
Enraged, Shambhu killed the priest at night. By the grace of the Jina-dharma, the priest attained divinity. 145
Then, Shambhu, driven by lust, attempted to forcibly marry the goddess-like Vedavati, who was unwilling. 146
With his lustful mind, he embraced and kissed her, and proceeded to engage in sexual intercourse with her. 147
Thereupon, she, extremely enraged like a flame of fire, her heart detached, her body trembling, lamented the destruction of her virtue and the murder of her father. 148-149
"O wicked one! You have committed the sin of killing my father, for which I shall now destroy you." 150
