पद्मपुराणे
शत्रुग्नकुमारोऽसौ मथुरापुर्या सुरक्तहृदयोऽश्यन्तम् । न तथापि धृति भेजे वैदेह्या विरहितो तथासीद् रामः ॥२८॥ स्वप्न इव भवति चारुसंयोगः प्राणिनां यदा तनुकालः ।
जनयति परमं तापं निदाघरविरश्मिजनितादधिकम् ॥२॥ इत्या रविषेणाचार्यप्रोक्ते श्रीपद्मपुराणे मथुरोपसर्गाभिधानं नाम नवतितम पर्व ॥१०॥
सुन्दर थी, कामधेनुके समान समस्त मनोरथोंके प्रदान करने में चतुर थी और स्वर्ग जैसे भोगोपभोगोंसे सहित थी तथापि शत्रुघ्नकुमारका हृदय मथुरामें ही अत्यन्त अनुरक्त रहता था वह, जिस प्रकार सीताके बिना राम, धैर्यको प्राप्त नहीं होते थे उसी प्रकार मथुराके बिना धैर्यको प्राप्त नहीं होता था ।।२७-२८॥ गौतम स्वामी कहते हैं कि हे श्रेणिक! प्राणियोंको सुन्दर वस्तुओंका समागम जब स्वप्नके समान अल्प कालके लिए होता है तब वह ग्रीष्मऋतु सम्बन्धी सूर्यकी किरणोंसे उत्पन्न सन्तापसे भी कहीं अधिक सन्तापको उत्पन्न करता है ॥२६।।
इस प्रकार आर्ष नामसे प्रसिद्ध, रविषेणाचार्यद्वारा कथित पद्मपुराणमें मथुरापर
