Navatitimaparva
1. As long as the wicked do not cross a hundred steps, the righteous path of this one (Mahavira) is not violated. (13)
2. Have you not heard of the terrible Kalaagni, one of the Rudras, who, attached to his beloved, became indifferent and went to his death? (14)
3. Go, what is the use of this to you? Do as you wish, I myself will know the duty towards friend and foe. (15)
4. Saying this, the extremely distressed one crossed the sky and reached Mathura, and saw there an extremely grand festival pervading all the people. (16)
5. And he thought that this world is ungrateful and very wicked. In the homeland and the state, there is joy even in the place of sorrow. (17)
6. He who, taking refuge in the shadow of his arms, has long enjoyed the happiness of the gods, how is this world distressed by the death of Madhu? (18)
7. The brave is to be served by the cowards, and the learned by thousands of brave ones. One may serve even a foolish elephant, but should abandon the ungrateful. (19)
8. Let that king who has killed my dear one be. I shall bring about the destruction of this entire kingdom. (20)
9. Thinking thus, the extremely fierce one, impelled by the arsenal of anger, began to inflict unbearable calamity on the people. (21)
10. Manifesting extremely grave diseases, he was ready to burn the world, devoid of compassion, like the fire of destruction. (22)
11. Wherever one stood, sat or lay, there he fell into deep sleep, unmoving. (23)
12. Seeing the calamity, prompted by the family deity, Shatrughna, equipped with means, went to Ayodhya. (24)
13. The brave Shatrughna, returned victorious from the great battle, was joyfully welcomed by Rama, Lakshmana and others. (25)
14. The fulfilled Suprajaa, after performing the worship of the Jina, gave great donations to the righteous and the distressed. (26)
15. Although the city of Ayodhya was extremely delightful with its golden palaces, it was like a cow, skilled in granting all desires, enjoying the pleasures of the three worlds. (27)
