पमपुराणे
आयोऽत्र नाम्ना 'प्रथमो' द्वितीयः प्रकीर्तितः 'पश्चिम' नामधेयः । अथाऽन्यदा तां भवदत्तनामा पुरी प्रयातो विहरन् भदन्तः ॥६॥ श्रुत्वाऽस्य पार्श्वे विनयेन धर्म तौ भ्रातरौ क्षुल्लकरूपमेतौ । मुनिं च तं द्रष्टुमितो नगर्यास्तस्याः पतिः सद्युतिरिन्दुनामा ॥६५॥ उपेक्षयेवाऽऽदरकार्यमुक्तः स्थितः समालोक्य मुनिर्मनीषी । मिथ्या यतो दर्शनमस्य राज्ञो विज्ञातमेतेन तदानुपायम् ॥६६॥ श्रेष्ठीति नन्दीति जिनेन्द्रभक्तस्ततः पुरो द्रष्टुमितो भदन्तम् । तस्यादरो राजसमस्य भूत्या कृतोऽनगारेण यथाभिधानम् ॥६॥ तमारतं वीच्य मुनीश्वरेण निदानमाबाध्यत पश्चिमेन । भवाम्यहं नन्दिसुतो यथेति धर्म तदर्थं च कुधीरकार्षीत् ॥६॥ स बोध्यमानोऽप्यनिवृत्तचित्तो मृतो निदानग्रहदूषितात्मा । सुतोऽभवनन्दिन इन्दुमुख्यां सुयोपिति श्लाध्यगुणान्वितायाम् ॥६॥ गर्भस्थ एवाऽत्र महीपतीनां स्थानेषु लिङ्गानि बहून्यभूवन् । एतस्य राज्योद्भवसूचनानि प्राकारपातप्रभृतीनि सद्यः ॥७॥ ज्ञात्वा नृपास्तं विविधैनिमित्तैमहानरं भाविनमुग्रसूतिम् । जन्मप्रभृत्यादरसम्प्रयुक्तद्रव्यैरसेवन्त सुदूतनीतैः ॥७१॥ रतेरसौ वर्जनमादधानः समस्तलोकस्य यथार्थशब्दः । अभूमरेशो रतिवर्द्धनाख्यो यस्येन्दुरप्यागतवान् प्रणामम् ॥७२॥
पहलेका नाम 'प्रथम' था और दूसरा 'पश्चिम' कहलाता था। किसी एक दिन विहार करते हुए भवदत्त मुनि उस नगरीमें आये ।।६३-६४।। उनके पास धर्म श्रवणकर दोनों भाई तुल्लक हो गये। किसी दिन उस नगरीका कान्तिमान इन्दु नामका राजा उन मुनिराजके दर्शन करने आया, सो उसे देख मुनिराज उपेक्षा भावसे बैठे रहे। उन्होंने राजाके प्रति कुछ भी आदर भाव प्रकट नहीं किया। इसका कारण यह था कि बुद्धिमान मुनिराजने यह जान लिया था कि राजाका मिथ्या दर्शन अनुपाय है-दूर नहीं किया जा सकता ॥६५-६६।। तदनन्तर राजाके चले जानेके बाद नगरका नन्दी नामक जिनेन्द्र भक्त सेठ मुनिके दर्शन करनेके लिये आया । वह सेठ विभूति में राजाके ही समान था और मुनिने उसके प्रति यथायोग्य सम्मान प्रकट किया ।।६७॥ नन्दी सेठको मुनिराजके द्वारा आहत देख पश्चिम नामक शुल्लकने निदान बाँधा कि मैं नन्दी सेठके पुत्र होऊँ । यथार्थमें वह दुर्बुद्धि इसके लिए ही धर्म कर रहा था ॥६८॥ यद्यपि उसे बहुत समझाया गया तथापि उसका चित्त उस ओरसे नहीं हटा, अन्तमें वह निदान बन्धसे दूषित चित्त होता हुआ मरा और मरकर नन्दी सेठको प्रशंसनीय गुणोंसे युक्त इन्दुमुखी नामक स्त्रीके पुत्र हुआ ॥६६।। जब यह गर्भ में स्थित था तभी इसकी राज्य प्राप्तिकी सूचना देनेवाले, कोटका गिरना आदि बहुतसे चिह्न राजाओंके स्थानों में होने लगे थे ॥७०॥ नाना प्रकारके निमित्तोंसे यह जानकर कि यह आगे चलकर महापुरुष होगा। राजा लोग जन्मसे ही लेकर उत्तम दूतोंके द्वारा आदर पूर्वक भेजे हुए पदार्थों से उसकी सेवा करने लगे थे॥७१|| वह सब लोगों की रति अर्थात् प्रीतिकी वृद्धि करता था, इसलिए सार्थक नामको धारण करने वाला रतिवर्द्धन नामका राजा हुआ । ऐसा राजा कि कौशाम्बीका अधिपति इन्दु भी जिसे प्रणाम करता था ।।७२॥

In reality, he was doing Dharma for this very reason. ||68|| Although he was explained a lot, his mind did not move away from that side, in the end, he died with a contaminated mind from the nidana bandha and after dying, he became the son of Indumukhi, a woman with praiseworthy qualities, to Nandi Seth. ||69|| While he was in the womb, many signs of his gaining the kingdom, such as the fall of the fort, etc., began to appear in the places of the kings. ||70|| Knowing this through various means that he would be a great man in the future, the kings started serving him with respect from birth onwards, through excellent messengers and things sent by them. ||71|| He increased the rati, i.e., the love of all people, therefore, the king named Rativardhan, who had a meaningful name, came to be. Such a king that even Indu, the ruler of Kaushambi, bowed to him. ||72||
