सप्तविंशतितमं पर्व
यस्य देशं समाश्रित्य साधवः कुर्वते तपः । षष्ठमंशं नृपस्तस्य लभते परिपालनात् ॥२८॥ अथैवमिति तत्सर्वमुपश्रुत्य नराधिपः । द्रुतं रामं समाहूय राज्यं दातुं समुद्यतः ॥२९॥ मुदितैः किङ्करैर्भेरीघनानन्दा समाहताँ । आजग्मुः सचिवाः सर्वे गजवाजिसमाकुलाः ॥३०॥ जाम्बूनदमयान् कुम्भान् गृहीत्वा वारिपूरितान् । बद्ध्वा परिकरं शूरा भासमानाः समागताः ॥ ३१ ॥ चारुनूपुरनिस्वाना दधाना वेषमर्चितम् । वस्त्रालङ्कारमादाय पटलेष्वागताः स्त्रियः ॥ ३२ ॥ आटोपमीदृशं दृष्ट्वा किमेतदिति शब्दितम् । रामं दशरथोऽवोचत् पालयेमां सुत क्षितिम् ॥३३॥ रिपुचक्रमिहायातं यद्देवैरपि दुर्जयम् । विजेष्ये तदहं गत्वा प्रजानां हितकाम्यया ॥३४॥ ततो राजीवनयनो राघवो नृपमब्रवीत् । किमर्थ तात संरम्भमस्थाने प्रतिपद्यसे ॥ ३५ ॥ किं कार्य पशुसंज्ञैस्तैरसंभाषैर्दुरात्मभिः । येषामभिमुखीभावं प्रयासि रणकाङ्क्षया ॥ ३६ ॥ नाखूनां विरोधेन क्षुभ्यन्ति वरवारणाः । न चापि तुलदाहार्थं सन्नह्यति विभावसुः ॥३७॥ तत्र प्रयातुमस्माकं युज्यते यच्छ शासनम् । इत्युक्ते हर्षिताङ्गस्तं परिष्वज्य पिताब्रवीत् ॥ ३८ ॥ त्वं बालः सुकुमाराङ्गः पद्म पद्मनिभेक्षणः । कथं तान् सहसे जेतुं न प्रत्येम्यहम ॥३९॥ सोsवोचत् सद्य उत्पन्नो भृशमल्पोऽपि पावकः । कथं दहति विस्तीर्णं महद्भिः किं प्रयोजनम् ॥ ४० ॥ बालः सूर्यस्तमो घोरं युतीरऋक्षगणस्य च । एको नाशयति क्षिप्रं भूतिभिः किं प्रयोजनम् ॥४१॥

आश्रय लेकर प्रजा सुखसे आत्माका ध्यान करती है तथा आश्रमवासी विद्वान् निराकुल रहते हैं ||२७|| जिस देशका आश्रय पाकर साधुजन तपश्चरण करते हैं उन सबकी रक्षाके कारण राजा तपका छठवाँ भाग प्राप्त करता है ||२८||
अथानन्तर यह सब सुनकर राजा दशरथ शीघ्र ही रामको बुलाकर राज्य देनेके लिए उद्यत हो गये ||२९|| किंकरोंने प्रसन्न होकर बहुत भारी आनन्द देनेवाली भेरी बजायी । हाथी और घोड़ोंसे व्याकुल समस्त मन्त्री लोग आ पहुँचे ||३०|| देदीप्यमान शूरवीर जलसे भरे हुए सुवर्ण कलश लेकर तथा कमर कसकर आ गये ||३१|| जिनके नूपुरोंसे सुन्दर शब्द हो रहा था तथा जो उत्तमोत्तम वेष धारण कर रही थीं ऐसी स्त्रियां पिटारोंमें वस्त्रालंकार ले-लेकर आ गयीं ||३२|| यह सब तैयारी देखकर रामने पूछा कि यह क्या है ? तब राजा दशरथने कहा कि
पुत्र ! तुम इस पृथिवीका पालन करो ||३३|| यहाँ ऐसा शत्रुदल आ पहुँचा है जो देवोंके द्वारा भी दुर्जेय है। मैं प्रजा हितकी वांछासे जाकर उसे जीतूंगा ||३४|| तदनन्तर कमललोचन रामने राजा दशरथसे कहा कि हे तात! अस्थान में क्रोध क्यों करते हो ? ||३५|| आप रणकी इच्छासे जिनके सम्मुख जा रहे हैं, उन पशुस्वरूप भाषाहीन दुष्ट मनुष्योंसे क्या कार्यं हो सकता है ? ||३६|| चूहों के विरोध करनेसे उत्तम गजराज क्षोभको प्राप्त नहीं होते और न सूर्यं रुईको जलाने के लिए तत्पर होता है ||३७||
वहाँ जानेके लिए तो मुझे आज्ञा देना उचित है सो दीजिए। ऐसा कहनेपर हर्षित शरीर के धारी पिताने रामका आलिंगन कर कहा ||३८|| कि हे पद्म ! अभी तुम बालक हो, तुम्हारा शरीर सुकुमार है तथा नेत्र कमलके समान हैं, इसलिए हे बालक ! तुम उन्हें किस तरह इसका मुझे प्रत्यय नहीं है ||३९|| रामने उत्तर दिया कि तत्काल उत्पन्न हुई थोड़ी-सी बड़े विस्तृत वनको जला देती है इसलिए बड़ोंसे क्या प्रयोजन है ? ||४०|| बालसूर्यं अकेला ही घोर अन्धकारको तथा नक्षत्र समूहकी कान्तिको नष्ट कर देता है इसलिए विभूतिसे क्या प्रयोजन है ? || ४१||

King Dasharatha replied, "My son, you will rule this earth." ||33|| "A hostile army has arrived here, one that is invincible even to the gods. I will go and conquer them for the welfare of the people." ||34|| Then, Rama, with lotus-like eyes, said to King Dasharatha, "Father, why are you angry in this situation?" ||35|| "What can be achieved by those wicked, speechless, animal-like beings, for whose sake you are going to battle?" ||36|| "Even the best elephants are not disturbed by the opposition of mice, nor does the sun strive to burn cotton." ||37|| "It is appropriate for me to go there. Please give me your command." Hearing this, the king, his body filled with joy, embraced Rama and said, ||38|| "My dear Rama, you are still a child, your body is delicate, and your eyes are like lotuses. How can you conquer them? I do not believe it." ||39|| Rama replied, "Even a small fire, born just now, can burn a vast forest. What is the use of the big ones? ||40|| A young sun alone destroys the great darkness and the brilliance of the stars. What is the use of its power?" ||41||
