पद्मपुराणे उन्मजन्ति चलभृङ्गाः सरःसु कमलाकराः । भव्यसंघा इवोन्मुक्तमिथ्यात्वमलसंचयाः ॥८॥ तलेषु तुङ्गहाणां पुष्पप्रकरचारुषु । रमन्ते भोगसंपला नरा नक्तं प्रियान्विताः ॥८॥ सन्मानितसुहृद्धन्धुजनसंघा महोत्सवाः । दम्पतीनां वियुक्तानां संजायन्ते समागमाः ॥८॥ कार्तिक्यामुपजातायां विहरन्ति तपोधनाः । जिनातिशयदेशेषु महिमोद्यतजन्तुषु ॥८॥ अथ ती पारणाहेतोः समाप्तनियमौ मुनी। निवेशं गन्तुमारब्धौ गत्या समयदृष्टया ॥८४॥ 'सहदेवीचरी व्याघ्री दृष्ट्वा तौ क्रोधपूरिता । शोणितारुणसंकीर्णधुतकेसरसंचया ॥८५॥ दंष्ट्राकरालवदना स्फुरत्पिङ्गनिरीक्षणा । मस्तकोलवलत्पुच्छा नखक्षतवसुंधरा ॥८६॥ कृतगम्भीरहुंकारा मारीवोपात्तविग्रहा । लसल्लोहितजिह्वामा विस्फुरदेहधारिणी ॥४७॥ मध्याह्नरविसंकाशा कृत्वा क्रीडॉ विलम्बिताम् । उत्पपात महावेगालक्ष्यीकृत्य सुकोशलम् ॥१८॥ उत्पतन्तीं तु तां दृष्ट्वा तौ मुनी चारुविभ्रमौ । सालम्ब भयनिर्मुक्तौ कायोत्सर्गेण तस्थतुः ॥८९॥ सुकोशलमुनेरूद्ध्वं मूर्ध्नः प्रभृति निर्दया । दारयन्ती नखैदेहं पतिता सा महीतले ॥१०॥ “तयासौ दारितो देहे विमुञ्चन्नस्त्रसंहतीः । बभव विगलद्धातवारिनिर्झरशैलवत् ॥११॥
'ततस्तस्य पुरः स्थित्वा कृत्वा नानाविचेष्टितम् । पापा खादितुमारब्धा मुनिमारभ्य पादतः ॥१२॥ रूपी मैलके समूहको छोड़ते हुए भव्य जीवोंके समूह ही हों ।।८०॥ भोगी मनुष्य, फूलोंके समूहसे सुन्दर ऊंचे-ऊँचे महलोंके तल्लोंसे रात्रिके समय अपनी वल्लभाओंके साथ रमण करने लगे ॥८१।। जिनमें मित्र तथा बन्धुजनोंके समूह सम्मानित किये गये थे तथा जिनमें महान् उत्सवकी वृद्धि हो रही थी ऐसे वियुक्त स्त्री-पुरुषोंके समागम होने लगे ॥८२॥ कार्तिक मासकी पूर्णिमा व्यतीत होनेपर तपस्वीजन उन स्थानोंमें विहार करने लगे जिनमें भगवान्के गर्भ जन्म आदि कल्याणक हुए थे तथा जहां लोग अनेक प्रकारको प्रभावना करनेमें उद्यत थे ॥८३॥
अथानन्तर जिनका चातुर्मासोपवासका नियम पूर्ण हो गया था ऐसे वे दोनों मुनिराज आगमानुकूल गतिसे गमन करते हुए पारणाके निमित्त नगरमें जानेके लिए उद्यत हुए ।।८४॥ उसी समय एक व्याघ्री जो पूर्वभवमें सुकोशलमुनिकी माता सहदेदी थी उन्हें देखकर क्रोधसे भर गयी, उसकी खूनसे लाल-लाल दिखनेवाली बिखरी जटाएं काँप रही थीं, उसका मुख दाढ़ोंसे भयंकर था, पीले-पीले नेत्र चमक रहे थे, उसकी गोल पूंछ मस्तकके ऊपर आकर लग रही थी, नखोंके द्वारा वह पृथिवीको खोद रही थी, गम्भीर हुंकार कर रही थी, ऐसी जान पड़ती थी मानो शरीरको धारण करनेवाली मारी ही हो, उसकी लाल-लाल जिह्वाका अग्रभाग लपलपा रहा था, वह देदीप्यमान शरीरको धारण कर रही थी और मध्याह्नके सूर्य के समान जान पड़ती थी। बहुत देर तक क्रीड़ा करनेके बाद उसने सुकोशलस्वामीको लक्ष्य कर ऊंची छलांग भरी ॥८५-८८|| सुन्दर शोभाको धारण करनेवाले दोनों मुनिराज, उसे छलांग भरती देख 'यदि इस उपसर्गसे बचे तो आहार पानी ग्रहण करेंगे अन्यथा नहीं' इस प्रकारकी सालम्ब प्रतिज्ञा लेकर निर्भय हो कायोत्सर्गसे खड़े हो गये ॥८९॥ वह दयाहीन व्याघ्री सुकोशल मुनिके ऊपर पड़ी और नखोंके द्वारा उनके मस्तक आदि अंगोंको विदारती हुई पृथिवीपर आयी ॥९०॥ उसने उनके समस्त शरीरको चीर डाला जिससे खूनकी धाराओंको छोड़ते हुए वे उस पहाड़के समान जान पड़ते थे जिससे गेरू आदि धातुओंसे मिश्रित पानीके निर्झर झर रहे हों ॥११॥ तदनन्तर वह पापिन उनके सामने खड़ी होकर तथा नाना प्रकारकी चेष्टाएँ कर उन्हें पैरकी ओरसे खाने लगी ॥९२॥ १. भूतपूर्वा सहदेवी, सहदेवीचरी । २. सालम्बभयनिर्मुक्ती म. । ३. मूर्धप्रभृति म.। ४. घ्नन्ती तं पदघाततः । ५. एष श्लोकः ख. पुस्तके नास्ति । ६. यतेस्तस्य ख.।

Her yellow eyes were sparkling. Her round tail was touching her head. She was digging the earth with her claws. She was roaring loudly. She looked like a female demon, with her red tongue flickering. She was carrying a radiant body, and she looked like the midday sun. After playing for a long time, she jumped high, aiming at Sukoshala Swami. ||85-88||
Seeing her jumping, the two monks, who were adorned with beautiful radiance, stood firm with their bodies, fearless, with the vow of "If we survive this calamity, we will eat and drink, otherwise not." ||89||
The merciless tigress fell upon Sukoshala Muni, tearing his head and other parts of his body with her claws, and fell to the ground. ||90||
She tore his whole body, so that he looked like a mountain, from which streams of water mixed with ochre and other metals were flowing. ||91||
Then, she stood in front of him, performing various tricks, and started eating him from his feet. ||92||
