पद्मपुराणे ततो रणादिव प्राप्तमत्यन्तविमलं यशः । शशाङ्कबिम्बमुद्यात' तमोहरणपण्डितम् ॥१३५॥ व्रणमङ्गविधानेन भटानां वीर्यवर्णनैः । गवेषणैश्च भिन्नानां निद्रया चाक्षतात्मनाम् ॥१३६॥ गता राक्षससैन्यस्य रजनी सा यथायथम् । विबुद्धश्च दशग्रीवः प्रमातहततूर्यतः ॥१३७॥ ततो वार्तामिव ज्ञातुं दशवक्त्रस्य भास्करः । बिभ्राणः परमं रागं कम्पमानः समागतः ॥१३८॥ शतबाहुरथ श्रुत्वा सुतं बद्धं निरम्बरः । जङ्घाचारणलब्धीशो महाबाहुर्महातपाः ॥१३९॥ रजनीपतिवरकान्तो दीप्तस्तिग्ममरीचिवत् । मेरुवत् स्थैर्यसंपन्नो धीरो रत्नालयो यथा ॥१४०॥ कृतप्रत्यङ्गकर्माणं संभामध्यसुखस्थितम् । प्रशान्तमानसः प्राप रावणं लोकवत्सलः ॥१४॥ दूरादेव ततो दृष्ट्वा मुनि कैलासकम्पनः । अभ्युत्तस्थौ प्रणामं च चक्रे भूमिस्थमस्तकः ॥१४२॥ वरासनोपविष्टे च यतौ भूमावुपाविशत् । करद्वयं समासाद्य विनयानतविग्रहः ॥१३॥ जगाद चेति भगवन् कृतकृत्यस्य विद्यते। न तवागमने हेतुर्विहाय मम पावनम् ॥१४॥ ततः प्रशंसनं कृत्वा कुलवीर्यविभूतिमिः । क्षरनिवामृतं वाचा जगादेति दिगम्बरः ॥१४५॥ आयुष्मन्निदमस्त्येव शुभसंकल्पतस्तव । नान्तरीयकमेतत्तु वदामि यदिदं शृणु ॥१४६॥ परामिभवमात्रेण क्षत्रियाणां कृतार्थता । यतः सहस्रकिरणं ततो मुञ्च ममाङ्गजम् ।।१४७॥
संप्रधार्य ततः सार्धमिङ्गितैरेष मन्त्रिभिः । उवाच कैकसीपुत्रः प्रणतो मुनिपुङ्गवम् ॥१४८॥ तदनन्तर अन्धकारके हरनेमें निपुण चन्द्रमाका बिम्ब उदित हुआ सो ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो युद्धसे उत्पन्न हुआ रावणका अत्यन्त निर्मल यश ही हो ॥१३५।। उस समय कोई तो घायल सैनिकोंके घावोंपर मरहमपट्टी लगा रहे थे, कोई योद्धाओंके पराक्रमका वर्णन कर रहे थे, कोई गुमे हुए सैनिकोंकी तलाश कर रहे थे और कोई, जिन्हें घाव नहीं लगे थे सो रहे थे। इस प्रकार यथायोग्य कार्योंसे रावणकी सेनाकी रात्रि व्यतीत हुई। प्रभात हुआ तो प्रभात सम्बन्धी तुरहीके शब्दसे रावणं जागृत हुआ ॥१३६-१३७।। तदनन्तर परम रागको धारण करता हुआ सूर्य काँपताकाँपता उदित हुआ सो ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो रावणका समाचार जाननेके लिए उदित हुआ हो ॥१३८॥
अथानन्तर सहस्ररश्मिके पिता शतबाहु, जो दिगम्बर थे, जिन्हें जंघाचारण ऋद्धि प्राप्त थी, जो महाबाहु, महातपस्वी, चन्द्रमाके समान सुन्दर, सूर्यके समान तेजस्वी, मेरुके समान स्थिर और समुद्रके समान गम्भीर थे, पुत्रको बँधा सुनकर रावणके समीप आये। उस समय रावण अपने शरीरसम्बन्धी कार्योंसे निपटकर सभाके बीच में सुखसे बैठा था और मुनिराज शतबाहु प्रशान्तचित्त एवं लोगोंसे स्नेह करनेवाले थे॥१३९-१४१॥ रावण, मुनिराजको दूरसे ही देखकर खड़ा हो गया। उसने सामने जाकर तथा पृथ्वीपर मस्तक टेककर नमस्कार किया ॥१४२॥ जब मुनिराज उत्कृष्ट प्रासुक आसनपर विराजमान हो गये तब रावण पृथ्वीपर दोनों हाथ जोड़कर बैठ गया। उस समय उसका सारा शरीर विनयसे नम्रीभूत था ॥१४३॥ रावणने कहा कि हे भगवन् ! आप कृतकृत्य हैं अतः मुझे पवित्र करनेके सिवाय आपके यहां आनेमें दूसरा कारण नहीं है ॥१४४॥ तब कुल, वीर्य और विभूतिके द्वारा रावणकी प्रशंसा कर वचनोंसे अमृत झराते हुए की तरह मुनिराज कहने लगे कि ।।१४५॥ हे आयुष्मन् ! तुम्हारे शुभ संकल्पसे यही बात है फिर भी मैं एक बात कहता हूँ सो सुन ॥१४६॥ यतश्च शत्रुओंका पराभव करने मात्रसे क्षत्रियोंके कृतकृत्यपना हो जाता है अतः तुम मेरे पुत्र सहस्ररश्मिको छोड़ दो ॥१४७।। तदनन्तर रावणने मन्त्रियोंके साथ इशारोंसे सलाह कर नम्र हो मुनिराजसे कहा कि हे नाथ ! मेरा निम्न प्रकार निवेदन है। मैं इस समय राजलक्ष्मीसे उन्मत्त एवं हमारे पूर्वजोंका अपराध करनेवाले विद्याधराधिपति १. -मुद्योतं म., ख., ब. । २. बिभ्राणं म.। ३. सभामध्ये म. । ४. -रेव ख. । -रिव म. ।

136. Some were applying ointment to the wounds of the soldiers, some were describing the valor of the warriors, some were searching for the missing soldiers, and some, who were not wounded, were sleeping. Thus, the night of Ravana's army passed according to the appropriate tasks.

137. When the morning dawned, Ravana was awakened by the sound of the morning trumpets.

138. Then, the sun, bearing extreme anger, rose trembling, as if it had come to know the news of Ravana.

139. Hearing that his son was bound, the thousand-rayed, the Digambara, the lord of the Jhangharacharan Siddhi, the great-armed, the great-penitent, came to Ravana.

140. He was as beautiful as the moon, as radiant as the sun, as steady as Mount Meru, and as deep as the ocean.

141. Having completed his bodily duties, he sat comfortably in the midst of the assembly, his mind calm and full of love for the people.

142. Seeing the Muni from afar, Ravana stood up and bowed his head to the ground.

143. When the Muni sat on the excellent throne, Ravana sat on the ground, his hands joined in humility, his whole body bowed in reverence.

144. Ravana said, "O Lord! You are accomplished, so there is no other reason for your coming here except to purify me."

145. Then, praising Ravana's lineage, valor, and glory, the Muni, like a stream of nectar, said, "O long-lived one! This is indeed the result of your good intentions. However, I have something to say, listen."

146. "For Kshatriyas, victory over their enemies is the only fulfillment. Therefore, release my son, Sahasrarashmi."

147. Then, after consulting with his ministers through gestures, Ravana, bowing to the Muni, said, "O Lord! My request is as follows. I am currently infatuated with the royal fortune and have offended our ancestors, the lord of the Vidyadharas, Mudyot."
