पद्मपुराणे जगाद वचनं कन्यां विनयादानताननाम् । प्राप्तकल्पलताकारां मणिहेमविभूषणेः ॥३८२॥ सख्यं सन्यस्तविश्रंसिमृदुपाणिसरोरुहाम् । ऊर्ध्वस्थिता स्थितामूवं मकरध्वजवर्णिनीम् ॥३८३॥ नभस्तिलकनाम्नोऽयं नगरस्य पतिः सुते । उत्पनो विमलायां च चन्द्र कुण्डलभूपतेः ॥३८४॥ मार्तण्डकुण्डलो नाम्ना मार्तण्डविजयी रुचा । प्रकाण्डतां परां प्राप्तो मण्डलायो गुणात्मकः ॥३८५॥ गुणचिन्ताप्रवृत्तासु गोष्ठीष्वस्यादितो बुधाः । नाम गृह्णन्ति रोमाञ्चकण्टकव्याप्तविग्रहाः ॥३८६॥ साकमेतेन रन्तुं चेदस्ति ते मनसः स्पृहा । वृणीष्वैनं ततो दृष्टसमस्तग्रन्थगर्मकम् ॥३८७॥ ततस्तं यौवनादीषत्प्रच्युतं खेचराधिपम् । आननानतिमात्रेण प्रत्याख्यातवती शुमा ॥३८८॥ भूयोऽवदत्ततो धात्री तनये यच्छ लोचने । पुरुषाणामधीशेऽस्मिन् कान्तिदीप्तिविभूतिमिः ॥३८९॥ अयं रत्नपुराधीशो लक्ष्मीविद्याङ्गयोः सुतः । नाम्ना विद्यासमुद्धातो बहुविद्याधराधिपः ॥३९०॥ अस्य नाम्नि गते कर्णजाहं वीरप्रवर्तने । शत्रवो गृह्णते वायुंधूताश्वत्थदलस्थितम् ॥३९१॥ अस्य वक्षसि विस्तीर्णे कृतहारोपधानके । कुनृपभ्रान्तिमिः खिन्ना लक्ष्मीविश्रान्तमागता ॥३९२॥ अस्याङ्के यदि ते प्रीतिः स्थातुमस्ति मनोहरे । गृहाणेनं तडिन्माला युज्यतां मन्दराद्रिणा ॥३९३॥ ततः प्रत्याचचक्षे तं चक्षुषैवर्जुदर्शनात् । वाञ्छिते हि वरत्वेन दृष्टिश्चञ्चलतां व्रजेत् ॥३९४।। ततोऽसौ तदमिप्रायवेदिनी तां सुमङ्गला । अपरं दर्शनं नित्ये नरेशमिति चावदत् ॥३९५॥
कन्याका सुख विनयसे अवनत था मणिमयी आभूषणोंसे वह कल्पलताके समान जान पड़ती थी ॥३८१-३८२।। वह अपना कोमल हस्तकमल यद्यपि सखीके कन्धेपर रखी थी तो भी वह नीचेकी ओर खिसक रहा था। वह पालकीपर सवार थी और कामको प्रकट करनेवाली थी ॥३८३।। आगत राजकुमारोंका परिचय देती हुई सुमंगला धाय बोली कि हे पुत्रि! यह नभस्तिलक नगरका राजा, चन्द्रकुण्डल भूपालकी विमला नामक रानीसे उत्पन्न हुआ है ॥३८४॥ मार्तण्डकुण्डल इसका नाम है, अपनी कान्तिसे सूर्यको जीत रहा है, सन्धि, विग्रह आदि गुणोंसे युक्त है तथा इन्हीं सब कारणोंसे यह अपने मण्डलमें परम प्रमुखताको प्राप्त हुआ है ॥३८५। जब गोष्ठियोंमें राजाओंके गुणोंकी चर्चा शुरू होती है तब विद्वज्जन सबसे पहले इसीका नाम लेते हैं और हर्षातिरेकके कारण उस समय विद्वज्जनोंके शरीर रोमांचरूपी कण्टकोंसे व्याप्त हो जाते हैं ॥३८६॥ हे पुत्रि ! यदि इसके साथ रमण करनेकी तेरे मनकी इच्छा है तो जिसने समस्त शास्त्रोंका सार देखा है ऐसे इस मार्तण्डकुण्डलको स्वीकृत कर ॥३८७॥ तदनन्तर जिसका यौवन कुछ ढल चुका था ऐसे विद्याधरोंके राजा मार्तण्डकुण्डलका श्रीमालाने मुख नीचा करने मात्रसे ही निराकरण कर दिया ॥३८८॥ तदनन्तर सुमंगला धाय बोली कि हे पुत्रि ! कान्ति, दीप्ति और विभूतिके द्वारा जो समस्त पुरुषोंका अधीश्वर है ऐसे इस राजकुमारपर अपनी दृष्टि डालो ॥३८९।। यह रत्नपुरका स्वामी है, राजा विद्यांग और रानी लक्ष्मीका पुत्र है, विद्यासमुद्घात इसका नाम है तथा समस्त विद्याधरोंका स्वामी है ॥३९०|| वीरोंमें हलचल मचानेवाला इसका नाम सुनते ही शत्रु भयसे वायुके द्वारा कम्पित पीपलके पत्तेकी दशाको प्राप्त होते हैं अर्थात् पीपलके पत्तेके समान काँपने लगते हैं ॥३९१॥ अनेक क्षुद्र राजाओंके पास भ्रमण करनेसे जो थक गयी थी ऐसी लक्ष्मी, हाररूपी तकियासे सुशोभित इसके विस्तृत वक्षःस्थलपर मानो विश्रामको प्राप्त हुई है ॥३९२।। यदि इसकी गोदमें बैठनेकी तेरी अभिलाषा है तो इसे स्वीकार कर। बिजली सुमेरुपर्वतके साथ समागमको प्राप्त हो ॥३९३।। श्रीमाला उसे अपने नेत्रोंसे सरलतापूर्वक देखती रही इसीसे उसका निराकरण हो गया सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि कन्या जिसे वररूपसे पसन्द करती है उसपर उसकी दृष्टि चंचल हो जाती है ।।३२४॥ तदनन्तर उसका अभिप्राय जाननेवाली सुमंगला उसे दूसरे १. प्रकीर्तने म. । २. वात- म. । ३. स्थितम् ख. ४. दर्शयन्ती न -रेश म. ।
