The Fifth Chapter
In this world, four great dynasties are renowned, O king. Their subdivisions, replete with mysteries, have been expounded in many ways. ||1||
The first among them is the illustrious Ikshvaku dynasty, the ornament of the world. The second is the spotless Rishivamsha or Chandravamsha. ||2||
The third is the extremely captivating dynasty of the learned, and the fourth is the renowned Harivamsha. ||3||
From the Ikshvaku dynasty was born Bhagavan Rishabhadeva, whose son was the mighty Bharata. From him arose Sitayasha, whose son was Balanka. ||4||
From him was born the mighty Subalah, and from him the extremely powerful Amritashabdita. ||5||
Subhadra, Sagara, Bhadra, Ravitejas, Shashi, Prabhutatejas, Tejasvi, Tapana, the mighty Ativivarya, Suveerya, the renowned for his prowess, Mahendravikrama, Surya, Indradyumna, Mahendrajit, ||6-7||
Prabhu, Vibhu, Avidhvamsi, Vitabhee, Rishabhadhvaja, Garudanka, Mriganka, and other great kings of the earth - ||8||
Relinquishing their kingdoms to their sons, fearful of the ocean of worldly existence, they became detached even from their bodies, embracing the vow of non-attachment. ||9||
Thus, I have narrated to you the lineage of the Solar dynasty, O king. Now, the origin of the Lunar dynasty is described. ||10||
Rishabhadeva had a son named Bahubali. From him was born the gentle Somayasha. ||11||
Then was born the mighty Mahabala, and from him came Subalah, known as Bhujabali. These were the initial kings of this dynasty. ||12||
Those born in the Lunar dynasty, with pure conduct, quickly attained the supreme state of asceticism. ||13||
