The use of 'Vyanjana' (sauce or condiment) was imperative to make the food palatable, as it is indicated by the words 'āsāemāņā (tasting)................... paribhurrjemāņā (enjoying) and paribhāemāņā (giving or distributing) asanań (food), pāņaň (drink), khāiman (sweets) and sāiman (dainties). Food was also mixed up with the other eatable articles to make it more tasteful. Different kinds of food
The Bls gives a list of the following staple foods and their prepared products used by the people of the society as depicted in this work.
Cereals
Sāli (a kind of rice harvested in the winter season), Vihi (a best type of rice), Godhima (wheat), Java (barley), Javajuvā (a kind of Jowar), “Sālīņam vīhīņam Godhūmāņam javāṇam-javajavāņam cesi ņam dhannāņam” and Nipphāva (a kind of wheat).' Pulses
