दिव्येन दह्यमानायां दहनेन तदा पुरि । नूनं वापि गता देवा दुर्वास भवितव्यता ॥७॥ अन्यथा देवराजस्य राजराजेन शासनात् । निर्मिता रक्षिता चासौ दह्यते कथमग्निना ॥७८|| रक्षतां बलकृष्णौ मः चिरेणाग्निभयादितान् । इति स्त्रीबालवृद्धानामालापा ययुराकुलाः ॥७९॥ आकुलो बालकृष्णौ च भित्वा प्राकारमम्बुधेः । विध्यापयितुमालग्नौ प्रवाहस्तं हुताशनम् ॥८॥ सागराम्बुहलाकृष्टं हलिना बलशालिना। जज्वाल ज्वलनस्तेन तेलभावमुपेयुषा ॥८॥ असाध्यतां विदित्वाग्नेर्जनन्यौ जनकं जनम् । सुबहं रथमारोप्य संयोज्य गजवाजिनः ॥४२॥ रथं नोदयतोः क्षोण्या रथचक्राणि पङ्कवत् । निमजन्ति विपरकाळे व गजा वाजिनः क्व च ॥८३॥ स्वयमेव रथं दोामाकृष्य प्रयतोस्तयोः । निरुद्धः कीलयित्वासाविन्द्रकोलेन पापिना ॥४४॥ अवष्टभ्नाति पादेन यावत्कीलं हलायुधः । पिहितं गोपुरद्वारं तावत्येन कोपिना ॥५॥ कपाटं पादघातेन ताभ्यां पातितमाशु तत् । द्विषोक्तं निर्गमोऽन्यस्य युवाभ्यां नानुविद्यते ॥८६॥ ततः पित्रा च मातृभ्यां पुत्रौ यातमितीरिती। विनिश्चित्योपसंहारमात्मीयमिति दुःखिभिः ॥१७॥ भवतोः जीवतोः पुत्रौ कदाचिद्वंशसन्ततिः । न क्राम्येदप्यतो घातमिति तद्वाक्यमस्तकौ ॥४८॥ तान्प्रशाम्य गतौ दीनौ दुःखितौ दुःखपीडितान् । प्रपत्य पादयोर्यातौ गुरुवाक्यकगै पुरः ॥८॥
अग्निके द्वारा जब नगरी जल रही थी तब जान पड़ता था कि देव लोग कहीं चले गये थे सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि भवितव्यता दुनिवार है ।।७७।। अन्यथा इन्द्रकी आज्ञासे कुबेरने जिस नगरीकी रचना को थी तथा कुबेर ही जिसकी रक्षा करता था वह नगरी अग्निके द्वारा कैसे जल जाती? ||७८|| 'हे बलदेव और कृष्ण ! हम लोग चिरकालसे अग्निके भयसे पीड़ित हो रहे हैं, हमारी रक्षा करो' इस प्रकार स्त्री, बालक और वद्धजनोंके घबराहटसे भरे शब्द सर्वत्र व्याप्त हो रहे थे ।।७९|| घबड़ाये हुए बलदेव और कृष्ण कोट फोड़कर समुद्रके प्रवाहोंसे उस अग्निको बुझाने लगे ।।८०॥ बलशाली बलदेवने अपने हलसे समुद्र का जल खींचा परन्तु वह तेलरूपमें परिणत हो गया और उससे अग्नि अत्यधिक प्रज्वलित हो उठी ||८१॥ जब बलदेव और कृष्णको इस बातका निश्चय हो गया कि अग्नि असाध्य है-बुझायो नहीं जा सकती तब उन्होंने दोनों माताओंको, पिताको तथा अन्य बहुत-से लोगोंको रथपर बैठाकर तथा रथमें हाथी और घोड़े जोतकर रथको पृथिवीपर चलाया परन्तु रथके पहिये जिस प्रकार कीचड़में फंस जाते हैं उस प्रकार पथिवो में फंस गये सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि विपत्तिके समय कहाँ हाथी और कहाँ घोड़े काम आते हैं ? ।।८२-८३॥ हाथी और घोड़ोंको बेकार देख जब दोनों भाई स्वयं ही भुजाओंसे रथ खींचकर चलने लगे तब उस पापी देवने वज्रमय कीलसे कोलकर रथको रोक दिया ।।८४॥ जबतक बलदेव पैरके आघातसे कीलको उखाड़ते हैं तबतक उस क्रोधी दैत्यने नगरका द्वार बन्द कर दिया ॥८५।। जब दोनों भाइयोंने पैरके आघातसे द्वारके कपाटको शीघ्र ही गिरा दिया तबतक शत्रुने कहा कि तुम दोनोंके सिवाय किसी अन्यका निकलना नहीं हो सकता ॥८६।।
तदनन्तर अब हम लोगोंका विनाश निश्चित है यह जानकर दोनों माताओं और पिताने दुःखी होकर कहा कि 'हे पुत्रो ! तुम जाओ। कदाचित् तुम दोनोंके जीवित रहते वंश घातको प्राप्त नहीं होगा।' इस प्रकार गुरुजनोंके वचन मस्तकपर धारण कर दोनों भाई अत्यन्त दुःखी हुए तथा दुःखसे पीड़ित दीन माता-पिताको शान्त कर और उनके चरणोंमें गिरकर उनके वचनोंको मानते हए नगरसे बाहर निकल आये ||८७-८९||

We have been suffering from the fear of fire for a long time, protect us!" Such were the words of the women, children, and elders, filled with fear and anxiety. ||79|| Balarama and Krishna, filled with anxiety, broke through the city walls and rushed towards the sea, determined to extinguish the fire. ||80|| Balarama, the strong one, drew water from the sea with his plow, but it turned into oil, making the fire burn even more fiercely. ||81|| Realizing that the fire was insurmountable, they placed their mothers, father, and many others on a chariot, yoked elephants and horses to it, and drove it across the earth. But the chariot wheels sank into the earth like they would in mud. This is inevitable, for in times of calamity, where are elephants and horses of any use? ||82-83|| Seeing the elephants and horses useless, the two brothers pulled the chariot themselves with their arms, but the wicked Indra, using a vajra-like nail, stopped the chariot. ||84|| While Balarama was trying to remove the nail with a kick, the angry demon closed the city gate. ||85|| As the two brothers quickly knocked down the gate with their feet, the enemy said, "No one else can leave except you two." ||86||
After that, knowing that their destruction was inevitable, the two mothers and the father, filled with sorrow, said, "Oh sons! Go. Perhaps, while you are alive, the family will not be destroyed." Thus, with the words of their elders imprinted on their minds, the two brothers, filled with sorrow and grief, comforted their distressed and sorrowful parents, fell at their feet, and, accepting their words, left the city. ||87-89||
