सिंहनिष्कीडित व्रतमें कल्पना यह है कि जिस प्रकार सिंह किसी पर्वतपर क्रम-क्रमसे चढ़ता हुआ उसके शिखर पर पहुंचता है, बादमें क्रम-क्रमसे नीचे उतरता है उसी प्रकार मुनिराज क्रम-क्रमसे उपवास करते हुए तपरूपी पवंतके शिखर चढ़ते हैं और उसके बाद क्रम-क्रमसे नीचे उतरते हैं।
