त्रयोविंशः सर्गः सुलेसे ! शृणु वस्से मे वचस्त्वं मातृवत्सले । स्तन्यानुसारिणी स्नेहव्यक्तिर्मातरि यन्मता ॥५१॥ जातः सर्वयशोदव्यां तृणविन्दोममाग्रजात् । स्थितः क्षत्रमधिक्षिप्य श्रिया नु मधुपिङ्गलः ॥५२॥ पूर्वमेव मया तस्मै मनसा त्वं निरूपिता । मन्मनोरथमेवातः पूरय स्वं स्वयंवरे ॥५३॥ इत्युक्त्वा सुलसा साश्र मातरं प्राह सा वरा । मारोदर्मातरिष्टं ते कुर्वे राजन्यसंनिधौ ॥५४॥ इत्युक्तमखिलं श्रुत्वा गत्वा मन्दोदरी रहः । कन्यास्वीकारचित्ताय सगराय न्यवेदयत् ॥५५॥ ततः पुरोहितेनाशु सगरो विश्वभूतिना । नरलक्षणविज्ञापि रहः शास्त्रमकारयत् ॥५६॥ स्वयंवरघरोत्खातलोहमञ्जूषिकोद्धृतम् । अदर्शयत्पुरो राज्ञां पुस्तकं धूमधूसरम् ॥५७॥ स्वयंवरार्थिनां तेषां पुरः पुस्तकमुच्चकैः । अवाचयत्पुरोधाश्च लक्षणश्रवणार्थिनाम् ॥५४॥ मत्स्यशङ्खांकुशाद्यको पद्मगर्मनिमोदरौ । सुपाणिभागशोभाढ्यौ सुश्लिष्टाङ्गुलिपर्वको ॥५५॥ स्निग्धताम्रनखौ पादौ गूढगुल्फो सिरोज्झितौ । सोष्णौ कूर्मोन तौ स्वेदमुक्ती स्तां पृथिवीपतेः ॥६०॥ सूर्पाकारौ सिरानद्धौ वक्रो रूमनखौ स्मृतौ । पादौ पापवतः पुंसः संशुष्को विरलाङ्गुली ॥६१॥ सच्छिद्रौ सकषायौ च वंशच्छेदकरौ तु तौ । हिंस्रस्य दग्धमच्छायौ पीतौ गम्येत रोषिणः ॥६२॥ अल्पातितनुरोमानुवृत्तजङ्घा सुजानवः । वृत्तोरवः शुभा निन्द्याः शुष्कजङ्घोरुजानवः ॥६३॥
माताके ऊपर जो स्नेह होता है वह दूधके अनुसार प्रकट होता है, इसलिए तू मेरी बात सुन ।।५०-५१।। मेरे बड़े भाई राजा तृणविन्दुको सर्वयशा देवीसे उत्पन्न हुआ मधुपिंगल नामका पुत्र है जो अपनी शोभासे समस्त राजाओंका तिरस्कार कर स्थित है-सबसे अधिक सुन्दर एवं प्रतापी है ॥५२॥ मैंने पहले ही उसके लिए तेरे देनेका मनमें संकल्प कर लिया था। इसलिए तू स्वयंवरमें मेरा ही मनोरथ पूर्ण कर ॥५३।। इस प्रकार कहकर माता दिति आंसू छोड़ने लगी। माताको रोती देख कन्या सुलसाने कहा कि हे माता! तू रो मत । मैं राजाओंके सामने जो तुझे इष्ट है वही करूँगो-तेरे कहे अनुसार मधपिंगलको हो वरूंगी ॥५४|| मन्दोदरीने यह सब सना और जाकर कन्याकी प्राप्तिके लिए उत्कण्ठित राजा सगरके लिए एकान्तमें कह सुनाया ॥५५।।
तदनन्तर राजा सगरने शीघ्र ही अपने विश्वभूति नामक पुरोहितसे एकान्तमें मनुष्योंके लक्षणोंको बतानेवाला एक शास्त्र बनवाया ॥५६॥ और उसे धूमसे धूसरित कर तथा लोहेकी सन्दुकमें भरवाकर स्वयंवरकी भूमिमें गड़वा दिया। जब स्वयंवरका दिन आया तब सगरने स्वयंवरकी भूमिको खुदवाकर लोहेका वह सन्दूक निकलवाया और उससे उक्त शास्त्र निकालकर राजाओंके आगे दिखाया ॥५७॥ स्वयंवरमें जो राजा आये थे, वे मनुष्योंके लक्षण सुनना चाहते थे। इसलिए उन सबके आगे पुरोहितने जोर-जोरसे उस शास्त्रको बाँचना शुरू किया ।५८।। उसमें लिखा था कि राजाके पैर मछली, शंख तथा अंकुश आदिके चिह्नोंसे युक्त होते हैं, कमलके भीतरी भागके समान उनका मध्य भाग होता है, एड़ियोंको उत्तम शोभासे वे सहित होते हैं, उनकी अंगुलियोंके पौरा एक दूसरेसे सटे रहते हैं, उनके नख चिकने एवं लाल होते हैं, उनकी गाँठें छिपी रहती हैं, वे नसोंसे रहित होती हैं, कुछ-कुछ उष्ण होते हैं, कछुएके समान उठे होते हैं और पसीनासे युक्त रहते हैं ।।५९-६०॥ पापी मनुष्यके पैर सूपाके आकार, फैले हुए, नसोंसे व्याप्त, टेढ़े, रूखे नखोंसेयुक्त, सूखे एवं विरल अंगुलियोंवाले होते हैं ॥६१।। जो पैर छिद्र सहित एवं कषैले रंगके होते हैं वे वंशका नाश करनेवाले माने गये हैं। हिंसक मनुष्यके पैर जली हुई मिट्टोके समान और क्रोधी मनष्यके पैर पीले रंगके जानना चाहिए ॥६२॥ जिनकी पिण्डलियां थोडे एवं अत्यन्त सक्षम रोमोंसे युक्त और ऊपर-ऊपर गोल होती जाती हैं, जिनके घुटने अच्छे हैं और जाँघे गोल हैं वे १. सुलसे ! शृणु वृत्तं मे वत्से त्वं मातृवत्सले म. । २. सूत्यानुसारिणी म.। ३. जन्मता क., घ., अ. । ४. स्थितं क्षेत्रमधिक्षिप्य म.। ५. कन्यायाः स्वीकारे चित्तं यस्य स तस्मै ।

The feet of a wicked man are shaped like a broom, spread out, full of veins, crooked, with rough nails, dry, and with sparse toes.

Feet that are full of holes and have a reddish color are considered to be destroyers of lineage. The feet of a violent man are like burnt clay, and the feet of an angry man are yellow.
