જૈન પરંપરાને ઈતિહાસ-ભાગ ૩ [ પ્રકરણ They hold that the world was created millions of millenniums ago, and that during that space of time God has sent twenty three Apostles, and that now in this last age, he sent another one, making twenty-four in all, which must have happened about two thousand years ago, and from that time to this, they possess scriptures, which the others (Apostles ) did not compose.
Father Xavier and I discoursed about the saying to them that this one ( questo ) ( Seil apparently the last Apostle) concerned their Salvation.
The Babansa aforesaid being interpretor, they said us, we shall talk about that another time. But we never returned there, although they pressed us earnestly, because we departed the next day.
પાદરીઓને અનુકુળ ખંભાત શહેરના અમુક ધનાઢય ઉમરાવ બાબનસા (બાબનશાહ-પારસી બહમનશા)ની સાથે થએલી વાતચીતને પાદરી નીચે પ્રમાણે ઉલ્લેખ કરે છે. - તે “વતી”ના નામથી ઓળખાતા અમુક માણસેને કટ દુશ્મન છે. તે દ્રતિય સંબંધી હું કંઈક હકીકત આપીશ.
વતિયે સાધુઓની માફક સમુદાયમાં રહે છે અને હું જ્યારે તેમના સ્થાન (ખંભાતના ઉપાશ્રયમાં) ગયો, ત્યારે તેમનામાં પચાસેક જણ ત્યાં હતા. તેઓ અમુક પ્રકારના વેત વસ્ત્રો પહેરે છે, તેઓ માથા ઉપર કંઈ પણ એઢતા નથી, વળી અસ્ત્રાથી દાઢીની હજામત કરાવતા નથી, પણ તે દાઢીને ખેંચી કાઢે છે, અર્થાત્ દાઢીના તેમજ માથાના વાળનો તેઓ લેચ કરે છે. માથાની ટોચે વચલા ભાગમાં જ છેડા વાળ હોય છે, આથી કરીને તેઓનાં માથામાં મેટી ટાલ પડી ગયેલી હોય છે.
તેઓ નિગ્રંથ છે, ભિક્ષામાં, જે ખાદ્યપદાર્થ (ગૃહસ્થોની) જરૂરીયાત ઉપરાંત વધેલ હોય છે. તે જ લે છે. તેઓને સ્ત્રિયો હોતી નથી. ગુજરાતની ભાષામાં તેઓના ધર્મશિક્ષણે લખેલાં
