Eighth Chapter: The bondage caused by the delusion of false perception, the states of distraction, and the passions which are the root of bondage.
1. Due to the passion (kashaya) of attachment, the soul takes on the properties of matter (pudgala) appropriate for karma.
2. This is bondage.
3. The states of existence and the conditions of place are of such nature.
4. The first are those affected by knowledge, perception, obscured by afflictions and illusions, which are variations of life in different lineages.
5. The classifications are fifty-two, twenty-eight, and twenty-four, according to the sequence:
6. as for those of delusion, etc.
7. This is bondage.
1 -Thus is that bondage.
2 -with the states of existence.
3 -the life conditions.
4 -the distinctions.
5 -of knowledge, seeing, and the direct experience of supreme knowledge.
However, this reading seems to be validated by Siddhasena, and the reading by Akalanka and Vidyananda is considered more appropriate than the simpler version.
