In my preface, I have posed several questions to Pandit Nathuram Premiji and Pandit Jugal Kishoreji regarding Umaswati and matters related to Tattvartha. The main part of their responses, in their own language, is provided below alongside my questions. Both of these gentlemen possess a historical perspective, and among the contemporary Digambara scholars, their knowledge in this regard is of high standing. Therefore, their thoughts are valuable for study, and I present them here as a preface. I will mention below any aspect from Pandit Jugal Kishoreji's responses that I need to elaborate on, following his letter under the heading "My Considerations."
1. Is Umaswati a disciple or descendant of Kundakunda? Has this reference appeared in any ancient texts, patavalika, or inscriptions that you have seen until now? Or should I say that before the tenth century, in which texts, such as Padavali, has Umaswati been recognized as a disciple or descendant of Kundakunda?
