script is legible. Its condition is good. Its size is 26.5 cms. x 11 cms. with no colophon of the copyist.
All the five mss. described above are corrected by some scholar. All these corrections are given in foot-notes on those concerned portions of the text.
go - The person who was asked by Late Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji to note down the variants from this ms. has written at the back of the title page of the first volume of the printed Paiyaţikā : 'zo sign is for [the ms. belonging to] Hamsavijayaji. It contains the Niryukti and the Sūtra.' This means that the ms. indicated by sign belongs to the Hamsavijayaji Collection, Baroda. We studied the catalogue of this collection. But we could not identify this ms. The variants noted from this ms. cover only 1-15 chapters of the Uttarădhyayanasūtra. This suggests the incompleteness of the ms. or the less utility of the remaining chapters for the one searching for good variants. I cannot decide as to which of these two alternatives is correct.
TTO - This is the printed text of the Uttaradhyayanasūtra edited critically by Jarl Charpentier. This edition was published in 192122 A.D.
ato - This refers to the text of the Uttaradhyayanasūtra printed along with the Vrtti by Ac. śāntisūri. The work was published in three volumes by Devachand Lalbhai Pustakoddhāra Fund, Surat in 1916-17 A.D.
Ho - This refers to the text of the Uttaradhyayanasūtra printed along with the Tīkā by Āc. Nemicandrasūri. The work was published by Sheth Pushpachandra Khemchandra, Valad (Gujarat) in 1937 A.D.
AVASYAKASUTRA
Agamaprabhākara Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji critically edited the text of the Avaśyakasūtra on the basis of the Cūrni and Tīkās. He himself prepared the press-copy. This has been printed in this volume. The following are the mss. used in the preparation of this critical edition :
- This refers to the text of the Āvaśyakasūtra contained in the Agamaratnamañjūsā which contains all the Ägamas edited by Āgamoddhāraka Sāgarānandasūriji. Sāgarānandasūriji got printed Ägamaratnamañjūsā as he wanted to get inscribed this printed text of all the Āgamas on marble-stones of Agama-mandir at Palitana.
So - This refers to the text of Āvaśyakasūtra occurring in the Vrtti by Ac. Haribhadrasuri, contained in the ms. belonging to the Jesalmer Bhandara. This ms. bears No. 34-35. At the instance of Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji his expert copyist noted down the
