________________ XII SHASTRAVISHARADA JAINACHARYA AFTER the rains of the year 1907 Dharma Vijaya left Calcutta with his monks and visited Nadia,-the celebrated seat of the logicians. The Pandits of this place are well versed in logic and the Nyaya Shastra. They discussed with the Jain Monk various topics of religious and philosophical interest, and had to acknowledge in the end the high degree of his learning and ability in those branches of knowledge. THE JAIN SADHU HONOURED BY THE PANDITS OF BENARES Making his way through Murshidabad, Baluchar, Azimganj, and Pāvāpurī, the place sanctified by the Nirvana of Lord Mahāvīra, and delivering everywhere sermons and public lectures, Dharma Vijaya at last reached Benares, in the year 1908. The Pandits of the city took this opportunity of welcoming the Jain Sadhu in their midst. The fame of his learning and scholarship had already established itself. His greatness, like the greatness of other persons of his class, did not depend upon frail crutches, but rested on the solid foundation of the substantial work which he had done.
