________________ Whosoever desireth his own wellbeing should, therefore, castaway anger, conceit, deceit and lust. For these four aggravate sin. Anger killeth love, conceit humility, deceit amity and lust everything. By calmness anger is to be won, by meekness conceit, by straightness deceit, and by content lust. Anger, conceit, deceit and lust--these four are faults that defile the soul. An arhats who has conquered them, commits no sin nor causes it to be committed. Anger and conceit unchecked, deceit and lust growing, these four are the black kaşāyas that water the roots of rebirth.
