Chapter 7
RESTRAINTS ESSENCE OF JAIN PRACTICE
It would be remembered that restraints and charities were specified in the last chapter as the causes of gaining comfortable situations. Restraints occupy a very important position in Jainism, so much so that they can be considered the essence of Jain practice. Non-violence, truth, non-stealing, celibacy and non-possessiveness are the five principal restraints.
