________________ Appendix A 509 One of the back shrines dedicated to Sürya contains a beautiful figure of Hariharapitāmahārka36/2 in one of the niches of its manqovara. The pitha and maņdovara retain the original portion of the shrine, the rest being newly built. The other back shrine dedicated to Vişņu contains an original image of Visņu in the garbhagļiha. Its mandovara niches contain figures of Višņu among which a figure of Trivikrama is noteworthy 3613 Dhrasanvel The temple, known as Magaderu, 37 lies about one mile south of the village. The temple is of the pancāyatana type and dedicated to śiva. The principal temple faces west. The temple complex consists of the main temple and five sub-ordinate temples attached to it. The former is surrounded by a pradaksiņā and has an half-opened maņdapa with aisles. The sub-ordinate temples consist of only garbhagrihas. Out of them two lie in the two corners at the back of the main temple. Two of the other three, facing the maņdapa, are situated at the western end of the northern side of the main temple. While the remaining shrine lies at western end of the opposite (southern ) side. To the east of this shrine there is an entrance porch leading to the mandapa on its north. In front of the maņdapa there is a small covered square room, open on the side of the mandapa and covered by walls on the other three sides. The western wall of the temple moreover is relieved by a window on either side of this room. The shrine of the main temple is square measuring 2.1 x 2.1 ms, and resting upon a high platform approached by a flight of three steps. The walls are internally plain but 36/2. In carving the Figure exhibits close similarity to those at Delmal (AANG. pl. LXIX) and Valam. 36/3 Dr. R. H.
