Then Kusumavali said. "O dear friend, do yourself what you think proper." Then Medanalekha brought the painting-board with a brush and said to Kusumavali "My lady, the prince is fond of painting; so let my lady paint here a female swan, who is separated from her proper partner and is therefore anxious to see him." Then understanding the opinion of Madanalekha, she smiled a little and painted the female swan as was advised. Madanalekh also wrote upon it the Dwipadikhanda suggesting the condition (of Kusumavali ). [67] How may a fine lady-swan not pine away for the sake of union with her lover,-the lady-swan full of anxiety on account of the profusion of fresh love, whose face has grown pale; who herself is lukewarm in desire in catching even a juicy stalk of a lotus; and who has not even set her sight on the cluster of lotuses shaken by the south wind?
