________________ A Sadhu's Reminiscences of Ramana Maharshi 97 they had been so hopelessly searching. Munagala was so done up that he had to be supported home and they wondered if they would ever get him there. When they did eventually arrive and came into the presence of Bhagavan, he told them that they had been foolish to put themselves to all the trouble and suffering. It had been useless from the start. Such a vision was not for such as they Who was the mysterious old man who appeared so opportunely? Why was Bhagavan allowed to approach no nearer? Surely there could be no such rule for him? Or was it not perhaps that had he done so, he would have been lost to us, as he would have been completely merged in the holy Being and that time had not yet come? The thing is mysterious. Once I asked, “Who is Arunagiri Yogi?" “Who is he but God Himself,” succinctly replied Bhagavan, but made no further comment. There has been considerable discussion as to whether Bhagavan could and did make a Will. A number of people disparage the idea altogether, while others place all the responsibility for it on the evil machinations of those surrounding him, who in some mysterious manner concocted a document which had full legal sanction. There are a number of people who still say that what passes as a Will is no Will at all, although it has been upheld in a Court of Law. As no record of it has been published in any of the Ashram books, I have thought it expedient to give an account of it here.
