________________ 21 98-106] 98. Neither Shastras nor Puranas (the study of religious books) nor even Tapashcharana (asceticism) can give Moksha (emancipation) to him whose mind is not absorbed in the contemplation of his Âtman. PARMATMA-PRAKASH. 99. O Yogin! One who knows his Âtman knows all else, because in the Jñana (knowledge) of Atman the whole universe may be seen. 100. One who realises his Atma-Svâbhâva (real nature of Âtman) sees the Atman; and he also sees the whole universe. soon 101. As in Akasha (space) the sun illumines itself as well as all other objects, so does the Atman see himself as well as the Lokâ-Loka (the whole universe). Do not entertain any doubt about this: it is the Vastu Svâbhâva (nature of the substance) of Atman. 102. As in pure water groups of stars become visible by reflection, so does the Lokâ-Loka (whole universe) becomes visible in a pure Atman. NOTE. As in muddy or disturbed water nothing can be seen, but when it becomes pure and calm, the starry firmament becomes visible in it, so is the case with Atman. The Svábhâva or real nature of Âtman is to see and know all things of all times and of all places. The whole universe, all the objects of all times and of all places, are reflected in the Âtman, when the latter is free from the defilement of Karmas, and, being devoid of Râga and Dvesha, is in a pure and calm condition. 103. O, Prabhakara Bhatta! Know thou, through thy knowing power, that Pure Atman by knowing whom one can know the Self and all other objects. 104. O, Master! Pray tell me that Jñana (knowledge or wisdom) by which one in a moment can know the pure Atman besides which nothing else is useful. 105. O, Prabhakara Bhatta! Know thou the Âtman as Jñan-maee (embodiment of knowledge); the Âtman knows the Self through the Self, and from the Nischaya point of view is equal to the Loka (the whole world) and from the Vyavahara is equal to the body in which He dwells at the time. And with reference to Jñana (knowledge) He is equal to the Lokâ-Loka (the whole universe). 106. O, friend! know that all that is Bhinna (separate and distinct) from the Atman is not Jñana (knowledge); you should therefore know the Atman.
