Gautam was to be Parmatma Mahavir's first disciple but before being acknowledged as a disciple, he not only bowed down at Parmatma Mahavir'feet but he completely surrenders.
Did Gautam just place his head physically at Parmatma Mahavir's feet? NO...! He gave up his thoughts, mentality, beliefs, doubts, principles and everything that he had at Parmatma Mahavir's Lotus feet.
To fill water in a bucket from a well, the bucket must be first turned downwards and emptied, only then can it be refilled. Similarly, Gautam first bowed to Parmatma
