________________ 34 MIRA AND MAHAVIR the moon; and I thought of our father and mother at the same time. He looked so like them both. MAHAVIR-I thought so too. There was a person by his side, and he seemed so like yourself and myself both. It is all so strange. Did I say that when Man lives God dies ? I must return the prize I have won. Man can live only when God lives, and dies when God dies in his hcart. Did you say the Mahabharata is not a story but a Philosophy of Life ? I suppose that also is truc. I have seen that I had not seen before My heart is glad, but trembles all in fear. I think the Bhagavad Gita is deeper than I had understood. It has a new meaning for me now. It is all so wonderful, so wonderful. As wonderful we see or speak or hear, Yet no one knows or understands ! MIRA-I have but faith; and when I feel, I think I know. MAHAVIR-Honour the master, learn by faith, By question and by service knowThus says the Gita. Mere faith is not enough. We must inquire and know; and when we have understood, we must put our knowledge to the test by acts of service; and when service is selfless, it is called Sacrifice; and there is God in each act of Sacrifice; and it is Sacrifice that transforms Nature itself into God.
