________________ 1092 THE KEY OF KNOWLEDGE. and may not be destroyed by hand-made weapons of destruction, the only power which can tear them asunder is will. But the very first requisite for self-exertion is faith, since people only live up to their beliefs and seldom act in opposition to them. Hence, Right Faith, Right knowledge and Right Conduct, that is the doing of the right thing at the right moment, are the true means of liberation. Different religions have pointed out, more or less, the same methods of realization, though some lay stress on Jnana, some on Bhakti, and so forth. But the difference is only a seeming one ; in reality, they all lead to one and the same result. For knowledge, i.e., Wisdom necessitates meditation and concentration, and cannot be had without them; and conversely, meditation and concentration lead to wisdom without anything further being necessary, so that wherever there develops the habit of deep concentrated meditation, or thoughtfulness, there wisdom must, sooner or later, come into manifestation. Thus, all the different branches of Yoga, such as Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Raja Yoga, are so many means for developing the habit of concentration and meditation. When the mind is steadied and gives up the habit of wandering in the pursuit of the objects of desires, it becomes quiescent, setting the soul free to study itself, which, in consequence of the quieting down of the mind, now presents the appearance of the placid surface of a lake unruflled by storm or waves, and sees itself as the source of all knowledge and power and bliss.
