________________ study continued during the reign of king Kumarpal who followed Siddharaj. Under the guidance of learned Pandit Kakal, many students studied and became scholars. Kakal himself was an expert in eight different grammars. In the ancient books, kakal has been honoured as 'Kavikul Chakravarti' and 'Shabdanushasan paaradrishva'. Siddharaj arranged to make three hundred copies of the volume of the new grammar and sent them to various corners of the country for study. Every year, in Patan itself, tests of students were taken periodically and annual examinations were held on Kartik Shukla fifth, commonly known as 'Gnanpanchami' day. Successful students were rewarded and their teachers were honoured by the king on that day in the presence of all citizens. From this incident we come to know Siddharaj Jaysimha's love for knowledge. The name and fame of Acharya Hemchandrasoori spread all over the country after this. Because of the lucid writing of this book, other books on grammar lost their importance.
