________________ do no harm; do not give pain to any one, do not tease or trouble anyone. By giving pain to others we will have to taste its bitter fruits in the coming births and die many times. Therefore those who desire happiness should make others happy. By happiness of everyone, our atma (soul) can become completely happy too. Be delighted at the sight of the virtuous. Be desirous of allaying the suffering of the unhappy. Inculcate the spirit of equanimity towards the low, the unrighteous or the sinful. Do not hate them. Pursuade them if they are amenable otherwise be indifferent. Learn to be charitable by giving even a little from whatever little you have. Do not forget the duty of charity (dana dharma). Try to uplift the poor and the afflicted. Observe the best moral standards in your conduct, in other words make your character an ideal one. Practise austerities to the best of your abilities and lead a life of pure and noble thinking. This is the principal message of the Jain Religion.
