________________ The Jainas, true to their philosophy of neutrality, kept themselves aloof from all tussles in the beginning but ultimately developed their own logic when they were attacked by the opponents. Jaina logician Siddhasena Divākara laid the true foundation of the Medieval School of Jaina Logic. The works of subsequent logicians are called in Sanskrit PramāņaŠāstras, the science of right knowledge. The present work is a popular treatise of well-known Jaina logician Śri Yaśovijaya Gaņi who flourished in the 17th Century, A.D., and who, on account of his vast erudition in Logic and Metaphysics obtained the titles of Upādhyāya, NyāyaVisārada and Nyāyācārya. The work is divided in three chapters, viz. (i) Valid Knowledge Pramāna; (ii) Knowledge from particular standpoints, Nayas; and (iii) Imposition, Nikṣepa. It also discusses Vyāptigraha, induction or the process of ascertaining a universal connection between the middle term and the major term. This work presents the viewpoints of the Non-Jaina opponents also viz, Bauddhas, Naiyāyikas, Sankhyas, and it repudiates them in a very plain, simple and lucid way. It contains a literal English Translation, notes and critical introduction. An index of Sanskrit words with their English meaning is also added. Price Rs. 20.00 0-8426-0562-2
