________________ Jaina Temples 81 architecture was also influenced by them. Thus the general character of the Jain architecture, particularly in Andhra, looks very similar in style to that of the Hindus. However, the Jains adopted the steppedpyramidal tower to their shrines in the early period while later on, it was given up and the prevailing South Indian sikhara was adopted. Thus the above survey reveals that Jainism enjoyed unprecedented growth in Andhra with its distinctive features for its temple architecture, though they were later on replaced by the Hindu architecture. Therefore it is quite apt to quote here the words of Dr. Guerinot who says "that in the domain of architecture the Jains have reached a degree of perfection which leaves them almost without a rival".
