The golden jubilee in honour of accession to the gadi cf Imamate of his Highness the Aga Khan, the spiritual head of the Ismaili Khojas, commenced at Hasa nabad, Mazagon, on January 19 with a darbar, where over 30,000 persons attended, including the elite of Bombay and the 90 year old mother of the Aga Khan, Lady Ali Shah His Highness was ceremoniously seated on a gorgeously decorated throne of gold and silver. On supplication by the Khoja community to be allowed to weigh His Highness in gold as a token of their devotion on the auspicious occasion, the Aga Khan consented and was weighed in a big scale, at 9,500 tolas of gold, worth Rs. 3,35,000. He accepted the gift amidst cheers and gave his 'loving paternal and spiritual blessings' to his 'dear spiritual children'. The Aga Khan announced his decision to use the gold for the uplift of his spiritual children. His Highness received presents from the Rao of Gutch and Raja Lunawala before he left Hasanabad amidst cheers. Jain Sadhus.
