JAIN JOURNAL : Voi-XXXVI, No. 1 July 2001 interpretation by a Purohita, birth of Vardhamāna and his janmäbhiseka are painted. These are followed by Sanghama as a serpent entwining a tree, frightening Vardhamana and his playmates, its subjugation and Sanghama worshipping the brave prince.
The next group represents Vardhamāna renouncing his princely lise, undergoing dikşā, pursueing austerities, receiving food from the king of Kulagrāma and getting enlightenment. In the concluding part, the samavasarana of Mahāvīra is elegantly painted, around which are seen bhavyas, celestials, and dancing nymphs.22
These paintings are more or less in confirmity with the textual descriptions found in Kriyakalabham of the 17th century, which narrate events connected with the life of Mahāvīra from his birth to nirvana in twenty five slokas. 23
