________________ (2) Total Population in 1901. Hindus. Parsees. N. Christians. Jains and Budhists together. Jain Gazette. 14657179 Population. Convicts in Jaol. Proportion of one convict to 73945 758765 9890149 British Burma. Budhists. 9184121 13051 Covicts in 1901. 703 9714 0 29 0 333 I shall now try to examine these figures from another side and see if they represent the true state of things. Separate figures are available for British Burma and Bombay and it is to be observed that the former is the province in which Budhists abound. The following table gives these figures separately. 13307 Proportion per thousand. 1509 "" 2549 477 Bombay. Jains. Budhists. Jains. 93 547 227696 Not known. 743 31 7363 This shows that the Jains are the most civilized people from the moral standpoint and instead of the bottom, they occupy the top of the ladder. What can be more striking and evident than this fact? And I may ask, what can be a worse perversion of facts than this combination of Jains and Budhists ?Page Navigation
