WEST Chandrakant Parekh Regional Editor A beautiful souvenir book was published to commemorate the event and was inaugurated by Shri Arvindbhai Pannalal Sheth, the Chief Trustee of Shankheshwar Parshvanath Temple, India. Our young people planned several events, including a Siddha Chakra Pooja and Adhaar Abhishek Pooja in English. The bolis were done in terms of Tapasya, Maun and other rituals. In addition, our youngsters lectured, had games and other programs. They helped organize activities to take care of the younger children and participated in the cultural pro- grams and band. The Society would like to offer special thanks to the Shankheshwar Parshvanath Temple in procuring Gabharo, Sheth Anandji Kalyanji's Pedhi in procuring marble for the floor and Dharanidhar Temple, for procur- ing temple articles Arvindbhai Sheth, Chief Trustee of Shankheshwar temple; Shri Shrenikbhai Sheth, Chief Trustee of Anandji Los Angeles, CA The Jain Center of Southern California has elected a new Board of Directors under the leadership of Virendra Shah, President. The Jain Center Youth Council (JCYC) has elected a new Executive Committee under the leadership of Shayna Parekh, President. Over 150 young people participate in Sunday religious and language classes, additional activities include: visits to amusement SKAVCO gram at the Stafford Civic Center in which 90 youngsters participated. The morning of day nine began with 108 Arhat Abhishek Mahapooja and was followed by Pratima Sthapan of Tirthankar Bhagwan and Dev-Devis and chanting of mantras by Shri Babubhai Kadiwala, Maharaj Kastursagarji, Shri Bhattarakji and Shri Amrendra Muniji. It was a once-in-a-life-time experience. The temple was packed to capacity and a helicopter showered flowers at the exact time of Pratishtha. The new temple was formally opened on day ten. Sattar Bhedi Pooja was performed. We were very fortunate to have Muni Shri Kastursagarji Maharaj and Bhattarak Shri Charukirthiji from India to help guide us through the Pratishtha Mahotsav. Shri Amrendra Muni and Samaniji Madhurpragna and Charitpragna also came to bless the occasion. Arvindbhai and Padmaben Sheth and Kumarpal and Pratimaben Desai graced the occasion. Babubhai Kadiwala and his group of musicians directed the rituals and festivities. We were also honored to have the presence of Manibhai Mehta, Sulekh Jain, Niranjan Shah and Hirabhai Kobawala of Chicago, Girish Shah of Los Angeles, Pravin Shah of Raleigh, NC, Premchand Gada from Lubbock, TX., Dilip Shah, Pradeep Shah and Pradhuman Zaveri from Dallas, TX and our past presidents Dipak Shah from Atlanta, Dinesh Chheda from New Jersey and Jayant Mehta from California. The arrangements, menus and quality of food was excellent. The food was served in the tent specially erected for the occasion. A total of 16 meals were served ranging from 400 to 1,300 servings per meal. The members of the Society participated and gave generously to the 300+ bolis and also made donations for the Mahotsav. Our contributions exceeded $ 500,000. We received "Best Wishes" from dignitaries in India, Acharya Maharajs, the Governor of Texas, Houston's Mayor and the US Senator from Texas. A full page article with pictures appeared in the Houston Chronicle. Articles also appeared in the Indo-American News and the India Herald as well as several newspapers in India. The news was broadcasted on local CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX affiliate TV stations.
