A NEED FOR "YOUNG JAINS INTERNATIONAL'
(YJI) by F.J. Dalal
The Universal 'Message of Non-violence' by Mahavir was for the entire humanity, not for a chosen few in India or Indians. It was not meant for circulation within the four walls of Jain Temples and Halls.
THE GOAL:
The time has come to transfer the stewardship of promoting Jain Philosophy and Principles from traditional, dogmatic, and ritualistic leadership living in the past to the futuristic rationalist caring and committed young practicing (not preaching) visionaries. In the fast changing world, the exhausted force of socalled Jain leaders giving lip sympa

Parliament of World's Religions (August 28-Sept. 5)
First Parliament of World's Religions was held at Chicago in 1893.
In the history of the world, it was the first meeting of the representations of major religions as equals without regard to demographics. One-hundred years ago, Jainism was represented by Mr. V.R. Gandhi.
This year, again, Jains the world over are joining the major world religions in the celebration of this historic even in Chicago.
A wide variety of programs have been planned including the participation of Jain leaders, monks and scholars, exhibitions, screening of videos and films, seminars and workshops, etc.

thy and shedding crocodile tears for the future of culture, religion, and the upcoming generation is a 'continuing journey in futility.'
The 'Jain way of life' can be lived in all spheres of socio-economic-political activities. National and International disputes can be resolved by Negotiations, not through violence, terrorism, and wars. Science and Technology are compatible with nature's balance and healthy environment. All living species including human, bird, animal, fish, etc. must be considered sacred. Safer and carefree existence can be regained by eliminating all harmful weapons and cruelty towards weaker lives. Vegetarianism is healthy for body and mind and can eliminate the man-made curse of hunger in the civilized (?) society. ORGANIZATION:
1. Young Jain International will be a Federation of affiliated units. Major metropolitan areas will be the potential units, e.g. London, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto,
Mr. V.R. Gandhi, presented Jainism and its philosophy to the world community. Now, 50,000 V.R. Gandhi's (there are roughly 50,000 Jains in North America) make their home here. So our participation in this event has to be of a scale and grandeur benefiting our population here.
As you can see, much is going to happen this year. This is just a glimpse. Details of many of these events have been, are being and will be published in the Jain Digest.
Many people, centers and organizations are working hard to make these celebrations meaningful, enjoyable and beneficial. Let us all mark our calendars, take time off and bring family, friends and relatives to these events.
No matter how hard we work, it is your vote and your presence that will count. I guarantee you, you will benefit and have lots of fun. This is going to be a great and memorable year. Jai Jinendra
