The courtiers gathered five hundred cows in a yard to slaughter them for the celebration. When Akbar came to know of it he asked
Great! The emperor
is cured!
A mere touch of a hermit like you cured me
at once.
Why have you gathered
so many cows?
Beloved of God! You have recovered from your ailment. We wish to celebrate this occasion
by sacrificing 500 cows.
The emperor expressed his anger
Fools! In this happiness you should try to make others happy. Instead, you intend to destroy other beings, what
foolishness? Release the cows.
When Bhanuchandra ji came to know of this he went to Akbar and said
Ogreat emperor! You have done a commendable deed. Magnanimity is nothing but to share one's
happiness with others.
Bhanuchandra ji continued to inspire Akbar on the path of Ahimsa and truth for many years.
