7.0 Jaina Works on Scientific Subjects
There are innumerable secular writings in Prakrit and other languages on Grammar, Meter, lexicography, mathematics, astrology and music, and other subjects as well.

1. The Suyapannatti, the fifth text of Upäriga, deals with astronomy.
2. The Candapannatti, the seventh text of Upäriga describes astrology of Indian tradition.
3. The Vivahapadala is another Prakrit work which deals with wedding astrology.
4. The Tiloyapannatti, Gommaṭasara and other many Prakrit texts are considered essential for the history of Indian mathematics.
5. The Paiyalacchināmamālā is reprehensive work of lexicography.
6. The Prakrit Paingalam and Alankaradappana are closely related with Indian poetics.

8. Thakkara Pheru wrote six scientific works: Vastusara on architecture and iconography, Jyotisasara on astrology and astronomy, Ratnapariksä on gemology, Ganitasära on arithmetic, Dhatutpatti on metallurgy and perfumery trade, and Dravyapariksa an essay on money-exchange.

Jaina literature presents a realistic picture of socio-economic life of ancient Indian people. It is important also for having a study of contemporary society and culture.
