________________ PREFACE I have great pleasure in presenting to the world of scholars this Part III of Vol. XIII of the Descriptive Catalogue of Govt. Manuscripts after a period of eight years since the publication of Part II of this Volume in 1942. As anticipated by me in my Preface to Part II of this Volume the difficulties which then hampered the progress of the publication of this Catalogue consequent upon the world war went on increasing year after year almost up to 1947. Subsequently efforts were made to resume the printing of the several volumes of this Catalogue. As a result of these efforts Vol. XVII, Part IV (Jain Literature ) was published in 1948 and Vol. IX, Part I ( Vedānta) was brought out in 1949 The present part of Vol. XIII contains the description of 519 Manuscripts of Stotra literature, Campa Kavyas, Caritas etc. in the Govt. MSS. library. The nature and scope of the Descriptive Catalogue of Govt. Manuscripts referred to by me in my previous Prefaces to the published volumes of this Catalogue remain unaltered. The present Part of the Catalogue has been prepared by me according to the plan of the departmental work on the Descriptive Catalogue of Goyt. Manuscripts entrusted to me in 1935. The press-copies of the several volumes of this Catalogue prepared by me and other scholars are awaiting publication for more than fifteen years. The present rate of progress in the printing and publication of these press-copies cannot be increased by the Institute without the help of some extra annual grant from Government earmarked for this purpose. In concluding this Preface I have to thank all the office-bearers of the Institute as also the members of the office-staff who have co-operated with me whole-heartedly in the publication of this Catalogue. In particular I have to thank Dr. R. N. Dandekar, M.A., Ph.D., the Secretary of the Institute since 1939, for his constant attention and willing help in furthering the progress of this work. Thanks are also due to Mr. S. N. Savadi, B.A. (Hons.) the senior Cataloguing Assistant of the Manuscript Department, for all the efficient help rendered by him in connection with this Catalogue since 1935. 15th April 1950 P. K.
