________________ OM INTRODUCTION The culture and heritage of Indian Sub-continent have incessantly propounded and practiced for spiritual perfection which is known as salvation or moksha. To achieve this aim has been considered the summun-Bonnum of human life. The modern man is often puzzled regarding the true ways and means of achieving this goal of life. Even though the way to spiritual perfection has been well advocated in the preachings of many ancient and modern sages, he is preplexed because of too many ways, too many means and too many beliefs; which often contradict with each other. The availability of the direct guidance of an enlightened spiritual master is very scarce. Under these circumstances a simple, concise and scientific treatise on the subject is being presented in this small work; especially to suit those devotees and aspirants who would like the guidance in English. The present work is in two parts of which this is the first one. As the title of the book suggests, it is meant to be a simple guide for day-to-day practice of developing various sublime virtues in life. When such a development is blended with proper discrimination between the self and non-self, spiritual wisdom dawns. With enlightened and enhanced efforts, true devotion, patience, perseverance and regular meditation, one fine day, self-realisation is achieved. The subject matter contained in each chapter contains the matter in consonance with the title of the chapter. In order to make the reading of the book more interesting, practical and effective, historical incidences from the lives of various great people have been described at the end of each chapter. This will also convince the reader that what has been presented here is not only bookish knowledge, but is such preaching which many of us can put into practice if we make proper efforts in that direction. Sublime and life elevating teachings of great men, both ancient and modern, have been freely drawn upon, experimented, imbibed and practiced by the author; and their essence has been presented in the present work.
