Jain scriptures will have been critically edited and their contents lexically tabulated together with their ancient glosses, they will throw many lights on the dark places of ancient and modern Indian languages and literature: ” If this hope is fulfilled, then alone, we shall have critical texts of the Jain Canon in a proper sense; otherwise all the stray attempts to edit some scriptures here and there, will give only tentative texts. 33. Another question that logically should engross our attention is the place which our Scriptures, called the eighth and the ninth scriptures, occupy in the whole of the Jain Canon. Incidentally therewith, the age of the present canon, its history etc. are the other ques tions which require to be treated.
