तिर्यंचकृत अनुकूल या प्रतिकूल उपसर्ग उत्पन्न होते हैं, उन्हें वे निर्भय होकर सम्यक् प्रकार से सहन करते हैं, सहन करने में समर्थ होते हैं, धैर्य रखते हैं और अपने सन्तुलन को बनाये रखते हैं।
११७. जब से श्रमण भगवान महावीर अनगार हुए तब से वे ईर्या समिति, भाषा समिति, एषणा समिति, प्रादान भाण्डमान-निक्षेपणा समिति और उच्चार-प्रस्रवण खेल-शिंघान-जल्ल-पारिष्ठापनिका समिति इन पांचों समितियों के धारक, मन, वचन और काय समितियों के पालक, मनगुप्ति, वचनगुप्ति, और कायगुप्ति इन तीनों गुप्तियों के रक्षक, इन्द्रिय-संयमी, और अंतरंग ब्रह्मचारी हुए । क्रोध, मान, माया और लोभ इन चारों से रहित हुए। शान्त, प्रशान्त और उपशान्त हुए तथा सभी प्रकार से सन्तापों से रहित हुए । अनास्रवी, ममता रहित, अकिंचन-परिग्रह रहित, ग्रन्थि रहित और निर्लेप हुए।

He had restrained his heart, his tongue, his body, his senses and his carnal desires. He was free of anger, pride, deceit and greed. His spirit was calm. composed, and tranquil. He attained that emancipation which arises from total withdrawal (parinirvyta). He was liberated from the knots of karma (antisrara). He had become ego-free and free from all sense of possessiveness. He had broken free from all bonds and attachments. He was like a pure bronze vessel emptied of all water or like the unstained mother-of-pearl.
