Gautam! in the past life one acquires life span of present life. Therefore bondage of next life takes place in the present life. Factors affecting life span (Causes of reduction of life span)
There are number of factors which can reduce the life span of being. thanam quotes the following reasons as described below:
1. Intense emotional conditions 2. Use of weapons 3. Food too less or too much 4. Physical ailments 5. Falling into pit etc.
6. Touch (snake biting) etc. 7. Stoppage of respiration.
The above causes are quite lucid by themselves. They do not need much verification. However, the third cause has been considered by the scientists is to be verified through experiments as the experiments of Mc Cay and his colleagues clearly demonstrates that. If food is restricted then the total life span of many different vertebrates e.g. Daphnia planarians and some rotifers is increased, the life span of mammals can also be prolonged by restricting food intake. They kept young rats on diet, which was nutritionally adequate but deficient in calories. The effect of this was to prevent rats from reaching maturity and they died at age much greater than animals fed adequately.
